Female Groomsman?

FutureMrs, on June 21, 2017 at 11:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

Hi! My FH is adopted and we found his birth mother. He has siblings and has been creating a relationship. He wants to ask his sister and brother to stand up, but wants them on his side. Has anyone ever had a female groomsmen? I have no problem with it and I'm excited, but I want to make her feel comfortable and not like she has to stick with the guys.

The boys are wearing navy tuxes and my bridesmaids are wearing burgundy. I was thinking of putting her in a navy dress, but the same style and bouquet as my bridesmaids.

Any thoughts? And does anyone have pictures if they did this? I'm curious to see Smiley smile

My FH is having his sister stand on his side. She's a teenager and kind of psyched about wearing a tux, so that's probably what she'll do. If she wants to wear a dress she can do that too. Either way we're just glad she's involved!

I saw a groomswoman at a wedding and she just wore a dress that matched the color of the tuxes instead of the bridesmaids like you suggested. I can't remember her having a bouquet though but I may be wrong!

January 2019 your actual wedding date or just a placeholder? You shouldn't be asking the wedding party until 6-8 months before.

Hold your horses. It sounds like this relationship is very new. I wouldn't rush into making them part of the wedding party.

FH is having a groomswoman. She's not girlie by any means, and would adamantly refuse a dress, so she's getting a suit to match the men.

ETA: Groomswoman instead of groomsmaid. FH has called her that this whole time... I had no idea it was wrong. Ha! Go figure...

But yes, you can have a "groomswoman." My friend was one.

The title would be groomswoman. It's not an uncommon situation.

Currently a student so I am working around my school schedule. I am aware of the timeframes.

The relationship isn't that new and there is no rush. Just very curious to see what other people have seen. I could not find very many things online

I was a groomswoman for my brother's wedding! It was great! The bridesmaid wore black dresses, and I also wore a black dress. We were just told long black dresses from Azazie and we could pick our own style. I think in your case matching the navy would look better. I did not have a bouquet. I hung out with the girls for just the hair and make up, but then I joined the boys for pics (they did not do a first look) and beers before the ceremony - which I much preferred as I had no idea who her friends were that were bridesmaids and didn't really like them when I met them for hair. I was so happy to be back with the guys. I did go to both the bachelorette and bachelor party - which financially was not easy. The bachelor party I just left before they went to the strip club, but other than that it was just a night out with my brothers and guy cousins and it was super fun.

My cousin is having a best woman in his wedding. If I remember correctly she's going to wear a suit. I think a dress in the same color as the suits would be beautiful (as you suggested). Maybe invite her to joined the BMs and you as the ladies get ready. That way she feels included by the girls Smiley smile happy for you are you FH, congrats!

FH has three women on his side. His sister is his best woman and two cousins are groomswomen. Their outfits are like the bridesmaids, long mismatched art deco dresses. I have a bridesman. He's wearing the same tux as the other guys. We gave everyone the option to get ready with either their gender or their side.

My FH's sister will be a groomswoman. She is wearing a black version of the dresses my BMs are in. She will not have a bouquet but wear the same boutonniere as the groomsmen.

Also just to add - I did walk with a bridesmaid for the processional and that was totally fine.

We are having a groomswoman in our wedding. Gave her the choice of wearing a suit, a dress the color of the suits, or a dress to match the bridesmaids. She chose bridesmaid dress. She will have corsage instead of bouquet to tie her in with groomsmen.

My FH is having his sister stand up on his side as well, in turn I will have my brother on my side. I will likely have his sister wear the same or similar dress as my sister, with a small bouquet.

My FH has his sister standing on his side. She's matching my Bridal party as well. Nothing wrong with having woman for groom and man for bride. Also his best man is doing double duty as our officiant. No need to follow ALL rules for wedding.

We're doing this! FH was having trouble picking out people he wanted to stand with him, he's always been close to his cousin who happens to be female. The guys will be wearing black tuxes so we're putting her in a long black dress. This is becoming a trend of having the opposite sex in the parties. I think it's kinda cool!

Our groomswoman is wearing the same dress as my BMs just in a color to match the groomsmen. She's going to get ready with us but then go hang with the boys while we do BM getting ready pics. She will have a bouquet that matches my BMs
