Feeling Lucky in Ireland???

Morgan, on October 4, 2018 at 10:21 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 15

So FH and I are deciding where to go for our honeymoon. We both decided Ireland was a great choice because we both have wanted to go there and we both have Irish blood! If anyone has any planning tips or great places they visited please let me know! I'm deciding if I want to plan it on my own or try and find an agency or travel group to do it for me lol Smiley smile

Yay, Morgan, what a great decision!!! It's been a while since I was in Ireland, but I loved it. Seriously, one of the best trips I went on and I'm planning on going back sooner rather than later. Smiley smile When I went, I didn't go through an agency, but I also didn't plan it myself, so I have a rather limited idea of what went into the planning of the trip.

I would definitely start by looking at the Ireland honeymoon guide for an idea of where to go and what time of year to go. I went during July and the sun set at, like, 11 pm, which was awesome because sunset lasted hours. If you were to go directly after your wedding in October, I would assume the sun schedule would be a little closer to that of northern U.S. states.

It rained everyday I was there, so rain slickers, umbrellas, more pairs of socks than you've ever packed would be appropriate. It may seem like a tourist trap, but Blarney Castle is worth it. So much history and it's so much more than kissing the Blarney Stone, but even that was fun. If you're over that way, I would suggest renting a car (they drive on the other side of the road!) and driving around the Ring of Kerry and at least stopping in the town of Dingle. That stereotypical Irish countryside you imagine? Yeah, the Ring of Kerry is basically that. Also, Dingle has a friendly town dolphin in the bay that everyone likes to talk about and sometimes he pops out to enjoy the sunsets as well. Smiley laugh

Wow, I'm sorry, I hope this isn't too overwhelming. Have you been to Europe before?

This was super helpful! I'll keep these locations and ideas in mind for sure! My FH and I have never been to Europe so we're super excited to start traveling together!

That’s where we’re going! We booked through Authentic Ireland. Our agent, Heather, set us up with exactly what we want to see, aranged our flights for us, and set up our hotels for us.

What was pricing like through authentic Ireland? I have been trying to find something like this where we have someone to help set up flights and hotels. So cool to see other people wanting to go to Ireland on their honeymoon

I've been to Galway, Ireland before and it was beautiful!! If you're going to be in that area, you just have to check out the Cliffs of Moher!!! They were the most beautiful part of my entire trip.

Yes!!! I love Ireland and had one of the best times of my life there. I have been to many different places in the country, but my favorite has to be County Kerry (Southwest Ireland). Dingle is a quaint town and you should absolutely do Slea Head Drive. I'll attach some photos I took while there. The Ring of Kerry is another great drive, but we took the advice of the locals and did Slea Head instead. Killarney is a great town to with Ross Castle and the national park. These are all in county Kerry. This area of Ireland is very romantic and would make a great honeymoon destination. If you are more into history I can recommend a bunch of different sights to see like Newgrange, Rock of Cashel, King John's Castle in Limerick, etc. But for a laid back romantic trip? Kerry hands down.

Also, I have done a fair share of European travel. I never liked structured group tours. I would come up with my own itinerary and rent a car with booking rooms strategically along the routes I planned. There are so many hidden treasures and the best places I went were places the locals told us about. Having the car gave us the freedom to be spontaneous. Like Dunbeg Fort from 500 BC. I know it isn't for everyone, but if you're up to it, I recommend it.

I’ve been to Dublin a few times, it is very fun and there’s lot of things to do! The Guinness Storehouse is one of my favourites. Travelling across the country to Galway and the Cliffs of Moher is amazing and you get to see a bit more of Ireland outside the more built up and touristy Dublin with lots of historical sites and castles to explore. The cliffs of Moher are definitely a must see. I went to Belfast for the first time a few months ago and it was great! You can take a bus from Dublin to Belfast, it’s a few hours I think - it’s a cool day trip and interesting to see yet another part of the country. You really can’t go wrong, there’s so much to do Smiley smile

I love Ireland!! I would suggest Dublin obviously but particularly the Temple Bar area, its pretty cool. The Cliffs of Moher is absolutely amazing so you definitely want to go there. If you're a hiker, you can go hike up a mountain to queen maeve's tomb which has great views at the top. If you're a beer drinker, the Guinness factory is an obvious. Even if you don't go there still try the Guinness because it tastes different than what we have here, Guinness can't export the beer with live yeast but in Ireland they keep the yeast live. The Jameson factory is also a good stop to visit! And Gallway has the cutest little town with shops to visit! Definitely take time to just go sit in a pub and mingle with the locals, I went in college on a history trip so we stayed in Athlone which is in the middle of Ireland and home to the world's oldest bar, Sean's bar! A pretty cool place to go and just sit down and chat with people!

Us too! Will you be going right after your wedding? We are delaying honeymoon until September or October to go there. My mom is a travel agent so she's planning everything for me! It's great not to have to worry about.
