I arrived at my parents house this evening, 100 miles from where I live, but we're getting married in my parents beautiful back yard a week from Sunday. My mom picked up my dress from the bridal salon a couple of days ago after a few adjustments were made at my final fitting. In my opinion the seamstress ruined my dress! I am so upset! She has hacked off the bottom of my dress very unevenly in places, didn't take the time to move up the appliques on the front of the dress, she cut through them! And the darts she added to the back that she said wouldn't even be noticed, are hideous! This was my absolute dream dress and I'm so upset I feel sick!!! My mom doesn't even know yet, I couldn't bring myself to go wake her up over this. Sorry for the rant, just so disappointed.

Woof it literally looks like she just picked a place and cut and called it a day. I'm sorry!

But can I say, no one is going to be staring at the bottom of your dress. Is this the point? Absolutely not. But your wedding is a week away and is this something that you're going to get rectified by then or are you going to spend a week being miserable over it? Put it on. See how it looks. Go from there.

That is a gorgeous dress that looks so beautiful on you! Do post photos of the alterations and what they look like with you wearing them. They may not be at all noticeable, which doesn't let the seamstress of the hook at all; if she truly hacked away at what could be considered an heirloom, there should be hell to pay.

But let me tell you a little story that might make you feel better.....(or at least laugh!)

I married a couple several months ago; the bride picked a very modern, architectural gown with an understated, simple front and a party in the back; a giant half bow that fell in ripples to form the train. It was breathtaking and when I saw her walk into the bridal suite I was literally stunned.

Well, we were all lined up to walk down the aisle of their industrial venue on the Hudson; guests seated, family and attendants in place and.....we waited. And waited. And waited.... no one had any idea why, but the band played on and the staff started to pass champagne to the people in the seats. Finally, we processed down the aisle (by now the groom was starting to get a bit nervous....) and here come the bride, looking magnificent, if a bit flustered. Understandable right? It' a life changing moment in time.

From my view, all appeared perfect, down to the little rhinestone horseshoe nestled inside that ginormous bow. Marry, kiss, recess.

But I had to know what the HELL had happened, so I asked the maitre' d. Apparently, the dress had self destructed just as the bride started to get into position to process. The hooks and eyes that held the Sydney Opera House bow on the back were all sewn on with one continuous thread instead of individually. Which means when one went? They all followed; basically the entire back of the dress fell off. The crack staff (no pun intended) sewed the bride back into the dress, stole the rhinestone pin from one of the flower girls and no one was the wiser; pretty impressive, since the guests spent a half hour looking at the back of that dress.

My point? Put it on, see how it looks. To others. Others who will tell you the truth. And then come in off the ledge and deal with taking the seamstress after the day or making her fix it immediately. One way or another she needs to make it right.

And then go forth and be married!!

I think you look gorgeous Jen. Honestly, you'll be radiant on your wedding day.

However, if you're this upset and you should be since clearly the seamstress was careless, I'd bring the dress back and raise hell, hopefully they'll refund you some of your money.

Oh my god I am so sorry you're experiencing this! I would definitely call around for an amazing seamstress....you would be amazed how much a really good seamstress could fix! I would probably sue the previous person.

That seamstress definitely screwed up incredibly. What even was she thinking? So sorry you are going through this.

I also have an Alfred Angelo dress and during my fittings we discussed some of the less savory interactions with brides that my store had seen, and store policy for it. And from what I heard, you can absolutely go to management or even corporate and they will do everything and more to make this right for you even on such a short time line. I would call as soon as you possibly can and raise the issue with them. Hopefully they can not only set this straight for you, but have a stern talking to with that seamstress before she can pull this on anyone else!

Now I'm just going to sit here and try not to fear for my dress that I get back in 20 days from an Alfred Angelo seamstress haha.

I am so so sorry!! Definitely go back in there and talk to management. I'm sure once you have it on you will look incredible and nobody will notice but I'd be super pissed too.
