I go wedding dress shopping for the first time tomorrow! I am excited, but since we just got passed the holidays I have gained some weight. I just started weight watchers and am hoping it will get me down to what I was before, I also have been less active then usual. Anyways, I had a horrific experience shopping for my engagement party dress and got something I hated and felt huge, I still hate the pictures from it. Any advice on how to not feel fat while I try on dresses? lol. White isn't a flattering color either so I am worried I will let the little extra weight I have gained ruin the experience, just like the engagement party dress. I know I will get there and loose the weight, I just am worried it will make the experience harder for me to find THE dress.

I wore a strapless bra, shapewear, and brought a pair of heels to try on dresses with and that worked for me! You will find dresses that make you look a few sizes smaller so don't stress too much!

I am not concerned about my weight, however I did try on some horrible dresses that made me look about 75lbs bigger. No lie. Just gotta laugh and shrug it off - not every dress is made for every body. But your dress is out there, and there will be plenty that will look awesome on your particular body.

As a side note, re: underwear colour. I wasn't planning on going dress shopping that day and I wore a dark leopard print bra and electric blue leopard boyshorts... which sometimes could be seen. Oh well! It was just me and the consultant in the change room and they've seen it all before. It was kind of funny actually.

Oh yeah and try on different styles so you get an idea of what you like and what suits your body type. I ended up getting what I had in mind but it was fun to try on different shapes and see how different they made me look. Overall it can be a fun experience if you go into it with a positive mind! Smiley smile Good luck!

Also you have lots of time to find a dress now so don't worry if you don't like any right away. There's time to look!

Also I should add... the sizes are just.... wow. I am a street size 4-6 in dresses, and my wedding dress was ordered in a size 14... and the hips are still tight on that. Hahaha.

It's really all about the dress. Some dresses look much better on curvy brides and some look better on smaller brides. I am pretty slender (usually a size 4) and some of the dresses made me look much bigger than I am. Also wearing one or two sizes bigger doesn't help. Go with an open mind, do lots of positive self talk, and bring along some water. It's thirsty work trying on dresses. When you find the right one you will look great in it.
