Feeling discouraged

Feeling discouraged 1
I had my first alteration appointment and I had a hair trial the same day. I dislike how my back looks and not sure what to do. I was thinking of doing hair extensions that way it is a little longer and can hide part of my back. I showed my mom these pictures and she agreed that it looks bad and thinks I should wear a veil or a shawl but my wedding is in June and I don’t want to wear that all night long! My MOH thinks hair extensions look bad and I just don’t know what to do? I am working on loosing some weight and don’t know if I should get a tan to help. Any advice or ideas would be great! I am super self conscious and need a little validation and I just haven’t been getting any positive vibes lately and is making me super discouraged.

My back did this when I tried on dresses. The trick is to have the consultant, or whoever zips you up, smooth your back from the center towards your sides. It helps a ton!

I just want to say that your dress looks stunning on you, and really flatters your figure well!

If you think you'd feel more comfortable with hair extensions, then I don't see why you shouldn't give them a try! There are a lot of professionals that can make it look flawless. Just because your MOH doesn't like them, doesn't mean you can't find a hair stylist that will make them look exactly like it's your hair! A friend of mine is close to a girl with very thin hair and she gets extensions put in regularly because she's self conscious about it. You can't tell the difference!

Keep working out though! Focus on exercises that target the back muscles! MadFit on youtube and instagram is great as well as PopSugar Fitness!

PP's suggestion is great as well, and is a great tip for whoever is going to zip you up!

Don't be too hard on yourself, you really are lovely, and hope you can see that. Smiley heart

    Hi Sydney!

Your dress looks beautiful and you look great in it! If you get hair extensions done right they won't look bad, you really won't know until you try and you can always get them taken out if you don't like them. Shawls and veils aren't traditionally worn all day anyways so I don't suggest that.

I don't think it looks bad at all!

I think hair extensions would be pretty. I would check with you hair stylist first prior to getting them to see what they may think. They may have a recommendation of a brand or type you’d want to get. I agree with you that would be a good idea. I think the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident on your wedding day. Your dress is beautiful!

I agree, it does make a difference how the back is zipped up. You look beautiful! Another idea is a back pearl drop chain which will draw more focus to that as well.

    1) Hair extensions would be pretty if thatʻs what YOU want

    2) Smooth your back out as mentioned above to see if that helps

    3) Ask if she can let the dress out some?

This dress should fit YOU, not the other way around.

FIRST OF ALL, you are BEAUTIFUL! And you look stunning in your dress. But I know how it feels to look at something while trying your dress on for that first fitting and find that one thing that you dislike about yourself in it. But I just want you to know, I think you look gorgeous.

So on the extensions topic, I had hair extensions for a year. I went to move up appointments every 8-12 weeks depending on how they were holding up. People that I met that didn’t know I had extensions would compliment me on how thick and long my hair was. They couldn’t even tell I had any. But I did my research before I got them. And I dropped a hot stack of cash for the best of the best in my area. And if I weren’t planning a wedding and paying for my entire honeymoon while also just getting an apartment with my fiancé, I’d have never taken them out. I went to a salon that specializes in natural beaded row and invisible beading extensions. That’s their main client base. They are certified, stay up to date by taking new classes, and any of the 4 hair stylists that work there are bomb. So if I couldn’t have gotten in with the woman who I’d chosen for mine, I’d have felt just fine going to either of the other 3. Id be happy to send you a picture of my before and after so you can see!
On losing weight, I’m in the process of doing that for myself and my confidence in my wedding dress as well. I’ve lost about 15 lbs since my first try on. I don’t work out daily. Just 3 days a week. And I pick workouts that center around the areas I’m focusing on losing weight from. And the MOST IMPORTANT thing to know about losing weight is that it is 80% DIET! Only 20% workout. Water. Water. Water. And more water. I now drink a gallon a day. One bottle immediately when I wake up to get my metabolism going. And one bottle 30 minutes before each meal of the day to help boost my metabolism before eating. I don’t eat anything after 8pm. I eat breakfast within the first hour of waking up each morning. I switched to drinking coffee instead of an energy drink every morning (even though I’m not a big coffee person). Cut out soda. I have let myself have one cheat soda a week because I’m obsessed with the coca-cola at McDonald’s😂 but only once a week. And instead of drinking juice or tea, I just bought crystal light packets in my favorite flavors so I didn’t have to cut out the taste of my favorite juices and teas but didn’t have to add the sugars and carbs from them.
Sorry for the book! Lol. I just wanted to make sure to give you the best advice I could❤️

If you try hair extensions, keep in mind that longer hair can also be bothersome if you get warm. That being said I think the best person to talk to is the person doing the alterations. You do look very nice and I'm sure with a bit of adjusting you will feel wonderful.

A nice lace cover up would pair nicely your dress is stunning. Hair extensions are a good idea too. Sometimes the good brands and type are a pretty penny sometimes but I think either of those would be a good idea and everything else people are suggesting.

It’s your first fitting. Is your dress finished being altered in the back/bust area? Or is that part still being working on? What did the seamstress say about it?

Check to make sure your bra is not contributing. An incorrect size can add to this issue.

Is the dress too small now? Everything has to go somewhere so it could just be flesh pushed up because of a fit issue. Is the dress sitting correctly on your body? That can contribute if it is off center or not sitting on the hips correctly. A waist stay can put the weight of the dress on your hips and not your chest. Also, smoothing out the skin while getting dressed can help as well.

A good seamstress should have thought of some of these things, are you confident in yours? Would you be open to a second opinion?

I love the idea of the veil for the ceremony and then during the reception you can switch to a capelet.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

If it seems the dress otherwise fits perfectly, it could just be the normal distribution of your skin and subcutaneous fat (not saying that to be mean, we all have it!) Some people just carry more toward the center of their back, and when it's "held" by something like the neckline of a gown, it causes this wrinkle.

Having someone more evenly distribute the skin under your gown will help. They literally just reach their fingers down into the top and run them out to your sides to push the skin outward. I would give this a try first and see if it helps before getting too discouraged.

Thank you for the kind words! I did schedule a consult with my hair stylist to discuss extensions. I need to stop letting other people into my head and go with what I think looks good!

Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to break everything down it really is wonderful and uplifting! I scheduled an appointment to discuss different options of hair extensions with my hair stylist since he specializes in them and I have had extensions before and thought they were so pretty and natural and I just couldn't understand how someone could dislike them if they look natural. Great job on loosing 15lbs!!! That is wonderful and never easy! I know it has been a yo-yo struggle for me because as soon as I loose some weight I cave on the diet portion and gain more back but I just need to stay focused. Having the positive words and vibes really helps encourage me! Again, Thank you!
