Feeding vendors

lilchr09, on May 1, 2014 at 9:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

This thought has been on my mind for some time already. Since mid morning i haven't had such a great night, it dawned on me why not ask the WW gang and get different opinions on this. So is anyone providing their vendors with a plate of food (i.e. photographer, videographer or any other vendor you might have there)? Vendor feedback appreciated as well.

Most vendors will hve it in their contract that they need to eat.

Most venues offer discounted vendor meals.

Yes, I am feeding my vendors.

Of course!! All of my vendors got fed the same food that the guests ate.. my caterer did not charge extra though. Better not have for the obscene amount they charged -_-. But im glad they offered this because all my vendors were awesome and deserved good food Smiley smile

Yes. The venue offers them and I will provide them to our vendors - we only have to worry about the pastor, DJ & photographer. Our photographer even has a clause in his contract about working "x" amount of hours, they will require a meal. It doesn't have to be what you serve to the guests, unless it's what your venue offers. I think ours does a sandwich plate or something.

This isn't an option. You gotta feed your vendors. Some venues have a vendor meal, but find out what it is. It may be cheaper, but it may not be something nice. We are giving our two vendors who are there for the mealtime - photog and Dj, the same meal as everyone else.

Absolutely. My photographer will be with me for 8 hours, there's no way I'm not feeding her! All of our vendors will eat the same food as the guests.

I was told that if u dont want them to leave to go elsewhere to eat and maybe late bec they will have to leave. Its best to feed them as well. They dont have to eat with your guest. But u can set aside a place for them to.

I will be feeding my vendors but i dont have to pay per plate bec we is providing the food. U can take to your caterer about this.

Our photographer has it in their contract that they get fed. The venue can offer a meal separately (and cheaper!) than the wedding meal so we need to get that sorted.

All of my contracts require me to feed my vendors - and I would certainly feed them either way! My regular cost per person is $150/head and my venue is charging $30/head for the vendors.

Our venue has a reduced per person rate for our vendors and they will have an area where they will eat.

You can either get your vendors a reduced meal or you can feed them what your guests are eating. Typically, vendors don't sit with guests to eat, but some people do it that way. My photographer said that typically the vendors hide in the hallway to eat, lol!

Usually you feed the vendors that are working through dinner. (DJ, photographer, videographer, photo booth attendant, DOC, limo driver that's waiting around for your end of night transport, etc). Especially with people like your photographer and DOC that may have been working with you since early morning, it's customary to make sure they are fed. If you aren't offering a meal, expect them to request an hour or so away from your event in order to feed themselves... By doing a vendor meal, you make sure they are still around during the event... When you work an 8+ hour day at work, you get a lunch break, too, right? Smiley smile It's sort of the same thing - either take care of them with a meal, or give them time off.

Talk to your caterer about vendor meals - they will know who will be fed, and can tell you more. Vendor meals are a lower cost than your guest meals and you don't seat them with your guests, traditionally (exception would be your officiate - if you invite them to the reception dinner (they may do the blessing, etc), they usually sit with the guests). Most of the time, bakers, florists, MUA, etc are not around for the reception, so you don't do vendor meals, except if they are your friends and therefore regular guests that will be seated at the tables.

Vendor meals don't usually have all the courses or fancy plating - honestly, we eat so quickly so we can get back to work that it's not necessary to be the fancy meals. We also don't drink at weddings, so you shouldn't be charged a full guest plate rate.

We've already decided to give our photographers the same dinner that our guests are having. They are going to be with us for 10-11 hours - I feel horrible giving them a sandwich. We'll do the vendor meals for everyone else though - DJ, Photo Booth etc.

I know for sure that my contracts don't state it, but i had decided to feed them i wouldn't think that not feeding them would be proper. Thanks ladies... its fastly approaching im in single digits now..... yay

Anyone staying there for the duration should get fed, and they probably have it in their contract. Officiants usually don't stay unless they're your family pastor/rabbi.

Vendors usually don't eat everything; they don't have time. Their meals should be cheaper and they shouldn't be seated with guests.

My vendors do not count as a guest if I use one from my venue's preferred vendor list. I am using their DJ so he eats for free. My photographer on the other hand is not one of their vendors so he will count as a guest and I will feed him.

I am feeding vendors. I invited my officiant and videographer to dinner (even though both will only be involved in the ceremony) and they both declined. I figured better to ask than pay for a plate that won' get eaten! So the only vendor who will be eating is the photographer.

Our vendors got the same meal everyone else did. I also included them on the seating chart. I don't like it when vendors are treated like second class citizens or servants.
