Favourite Tea Sandwiches?

My fiance and I are throwing a high tea for our reception, with little tea sandwiches and sweets. If you were a guest, what tea sandwiches would you like to see there? We're still working out the menu. There will also be scones and clotted cream and jam

@Celia, it is! Even expanded into a whole (pretty much identical) series, but kids like that sort of thing.

Of course, if a mouse was having a rustic wedding, that might seem more appropriate! Smiley smile

"why are there 160+ comments on a thread about sandwiches?"

    "...oh.."

there went a good chunk of my afternoon at work Smiley smile

    - also, not that you were looking for this suggestion OP.. I've never been to any kind of tea so no comment on sandwich varieties, but something like a pear & candied pecan salad with a mustard vinaigrette & blue cheese crumbles (and maybe even sliced grilled chicken?) would compliment your menu nicely and offer an alternative option Smiley smile

@M.Hand, if it's actually you guys, then more power to you! Seriously, my issue is with people doing it because it's trendy when it has absolutely no connection or anything like that. It's not personal, it's Pinterest Smiley tongue

I hope you have a beautiful wedding that makes you and your fiance very happy.

Thanks for the suggestions! No PB here as both my fiance and my son have life threatening allergies to nuts, but some of the others sound delicious! I usually do my Brie with turkey, I'll have to give it a try with apple and see how that combo works.

So far my favourites of what we have planned are the skewers with cherry tomatoes fresh mozzarella basil leaf and balsamic vinegar drizzle, shrimp salad sandwiches on brioche, smoked salmon with cream cheese red onion and capers on pumpernickel, black forest ham and sharp cheddar on mini croissants, and proscuttio with Parmesan on a baguette slice.

We're still working on it Smiley smile I've been getting some interesting vegan ideas too but we haven't tried them all yet. So far we've got hummus pinwheels and a roasted vegetable on a mini French stick.

Susan, honestly stop saying "high tea". You're not serving high tea.

@Jacks, I haven't said it in a few pages, but since you like it so much...

Gee, I'm throwing a lovely HIGH TEA.

Seriously, if you're bothered by my choice of words, you can feel free to scroll on by. Or not, if you prefer. Doesn't bother me either way.

Susan, words have meaning in society. High tea means something. It's not sandwiches. I'd personally roll your event an hour back to more closely approximate "tea". The phrase "high tea" denotes a whole other type of hosting, which you're not doing. I don't care what you do, but it will be easier for you if you use the right phrase.

    Love your snark though.

Thanks, I tend to be quite happy with it too, most days. Livens things up a bit, although I do tend to run low on popcorn every once in a while.

Susan, I was actually being sarcastic. Everyone here was trying to help you.

As someone who hasn't even heard of a high tea and has only been to one 'real' wedding I think your menu would be fine as long as you make it clear to guest exactly what to expect. Though I do like the idea of tiny quiche or some other sandwich alternative just because it sounds delicious and also adds a bit of variety. My only real worry with your menu is picky eaters since you'll have children (and Im sure some adults too) and anyone who has diabetes because that is a pretty carby menu. Otherwise I think I would have a great time.

TugBride, except Susan is calling her sandwich reception something it's not. So it won't be clear to her guests that there will be no carving station and etc.

@Jacks, I do a pretty good deadpan, eh? Smiley smile

I wouldn't worry on my guests' behalf- they already know what style of reception we're having and since many of them are actually planning to dress in costume, I think it's pretty safe to say they're into it.

It's going to be an awesomely fun and not boring afternoon, that's for sure Smiley smile

Susan, I literally do not care what you do. As long as your guests are not people that are used to having "high tea", you'll be fine.

I'd bring protein in my purse.

I'm glad to hear it. Some people here seemed really invested. I was going to ask them to pass the hat so that I'd actually care about their opinions... but I wouldn't anyway.

    All the best!

Ah yes, quiches. Another thing that anybody that has an issue with dairy or gluten can't eat. Lovely.
