Favourite Tea Sandwiches?

My fiance and I are throwing a high tea for our reception, with little tea sandwiches and sweets. If you were a guest, what tea sandwiches would you like to see there? We're still working out the menu. There will also be scones and clotted cream and jam

It's kinda like "black tie".....sounds good, but most people don't really know what it entails.....

(I wasn't directing that to you MrsB)

I have never been to a high tea, but this sounds awesome. I think 4 'real' sandwiches and other sweets is more than enough. Personally, I'm a grazer. I love/prefer a little of everything and have it available to me the whole time haha.

Did you guys not understand she said she had the equivalent of four FULL SANDWICHES per person? Even when I'm in the height of marathon training and HANGRY all the time, 4 full sandwiches plus snacks and dessert would satisfy me

@Kristin I had tea sandwiches at my bridal shower, catered by a caterer who regularly hosts tea times. They say they are equivalent to four sandwiches but tea sandwiches are so small. Also, a tiny tea sandwich and scone will not soak up any alcohol...Guests will be driving a long way home tipsy and hungry.

Good fucking lord. Didn't she already say she's having 16 pieces of the tea sandwiches per person? Not to mention all the other stuff available.

MrsBdeG, do you still not get it? It's four FULL SIZE sandwiches per person which means SIXTEEN tea-sized sandwiches. It's not 4 tea sandwiches. Plus sweets and scones. I doubt people will still be hungry after that. I think this sounds fine for a short 3-hour reception that starts at 3:30pm.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea for the OP to have more variety of food.....maybe salad and/or sides, however, I hardly think she is starving her guests.

@Emily At dinner time, TEA SANDWICHES aren't going to cut it, IMO. Tea sandwiches aren't like hoagies...If I am driving 1.5-2 hours to a wedding, near a meal-time, I'd be pretty pissed if someone paraded out tiny sandwiches and with some scones.

If this was a brunch, that'd be one thing but she specifically gave us the timeline.

^^^ 16 tea sandwiches wouldn't fill you up? I get they are small... but 16 is a lot.

@Tanya Who is *actually* going to eat 16 tiny sandwiches? After a few of them, people are going to start seeking real food. I'm just saying, as a guest, I'd expect tea sandwiches as, maybe, an appetizer but if they are the whole meal...that's a pretty weak meal.

@OP, you should have some savory scones. They're sooooo delicious *drool* I'd be all over that and pretty sure I could get full from just that.

And aren't people likely to leave a bit earlier anyway? Like they could bounce after two hours to grab dinner if they're really still hungry....I assume OP has something in her invitation that will give her guests a hint of the food that will be served.

@OP can you offer salad, fruit, and chicken skewers or something so that people that have food allergies or don't want to eat all bread can have something to eat?

You need more food than that. My venue provided tea sandwiches in their getting ready package at my wedding. The package was for 10 and we only had six girls there. We were all dying of hunger and had five more hours until the reception and had to beg the kitchen to make us chicken fingers and French fries so we didn’t pass out before dinner. Also UO - but I would not eat 16 tea sandwiches (and I really don’t think your guests are going to be like, “ah yes 16 mini sandwiches YESSSSS!), I would eat two and wonder where the real food is.

Not everyone will want to eat that much bread, but can you add some sides like others have suggested? Pasta or a salad?

Most people I know eat dinner between 5-7. While I love your concept (and agree with cucumber sandwiches!) I would reconsider your timeline or add more meal option for your guests so that it can be enough for dinner. You have to imagine that if people are at your reception until 6:30 and they then have to go someplace else for dinner or go home and make dinner, they will likely not get to eat a full meal until after 8. It's just about being considerate. If you really want to have a reception like that then I would move the time so it starts earlier and ends by 5.

I'm all about a nice sandwich, but I prefer it on a nice piece of Italian bread with ham and provolone, lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar. Sorry I'm a Brooklyn girl, that's a sandwich to me. Cucumbers on bread are not appealing to me unless it's in a salad.

    16 pieces each? Carb city!

Who knew tea sandwiches were so controversial.

But I have to agree with those suggesting other options besides just sandwiches and scones. Not because they aren't substantial enough but because variety is key with keeping guests happy. Add some mini quiches or a chilled veggie platter. Cheese boards with assorted breads, crackers, and complimentary fruit. A cookie tray with delicate cookies like anise cookies, iced sugar cookies. See if you can swing a soup course? Or cut your reception down by 30 minutes to an hour.

We aren't out to get you, OP. (Most of us anyway) We just want your reception to be successful and not that wedding where guests talk about your food choices or lack thereof.
