Favors, how do you give them out?

Gee O. aka Happily Wifed Up, on May 25, 2012 at 10:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I am wondering how to give out my favors. i really dont want to hand them to each guest at the end of the reception or put it on each table. I want them to be able to go pick their favors themselves. Is this okay? The favors I have are coasters, key chains and candy jars and I have only 100 of each(since the wedding was once upon a guestlist of 100 and now 120), so I was thinking of arranging them on a table and maybe call it the "favor table", but my MOH feels favors are meant to be given not taken....so what do you guys think?

Sure! Some ladies are having a favor table with a sign saying "take one please" or some such. Perfectly acceptable. =)

I like the idea of the favor table but I will also be honest about something..... if you do the favor table you will always have at least one person who is going to take more than one favor (especially if you have different kinds of favors). So, if you bought 1 favor per person, it may not be the most ideal thing to do.

Isabela yh I am going to agree with you on that one. Another thing my MOH suggested is giving on favor to a husband and wife as opposed to giving them 2. Since we are running short, the head table(the couple and the wedding party, coming to 8 in total) wont be having favors for sure--they dont mind so that comes up to 12 people left with no favors if I decided to give everyone. So this 1 favor per couple really sounds great I just dunno if its awful or not. lol

We're doing a favor table as we don't have the ratio of one favor for every guest. That being said, we're having a candy buffet and cookie table so people will have options.

I think the favor table is fine, and you can do a tasteful and sweet sign asking each person to only take one. I've been told that for those guests that take more than one favor, there is a guest who won't take any. So it should balance itself out.

I am doing personalized favors so no one will take more. Our reception is masquerade themed, so I am hand making masks(plain masks bough & I decorate) personalized to each guest's favorite color. On the RSVP card I ask they mark what their fav color is (our Invites are semi-formal so I think this is ok) and on the table at their seat will be masks for them to wear.

FH and I haven't decided on favors yet, but we do know we will give our guests a personalized gift bag with the favors we've decided on. If I have my way, we will just have personalized gift bags so guests can help themselves to the candy/cupcake/cookie tables.

I would just place them at the table near or on the plate. Every other seat if it is going to be 1 per household.

I think a favor table would be totally fine since you have a variety. Also it sounds like you will have plenty of extras if people want to take more than one - some people won't take any. (Unless I'm having a reading comp fail - sounds like you actually have 300 favors.)

My mom made little boxes of cookies as favors, and we put one at each place setting. It helped to fill up the table a bit so they did double duty. Smiley smile

I am setting my seed packets at each seat or they are going on the cupcake table in a basket... IDK like a lot of posts I think this is over thinking it. Your guests will be happy with a little gift if its at the table, at a favor table or anywhere else it will be fine. Last night I was at a wedding and I really didn't hear 1 person talk about her mini tin's with mint favors... they just are not what really makes the day.

I think since you are a few favors short that it would be good to do one favor per couple/family. You could have a sign on the table that says "please take one per household."

I'm doing individual smores in a bag for each guest and placing them on the table where they sit to eat.

Ours were our name cards so they took them when they came in the door to the reception

I think a favor table would be ok...Some people may take more than one, but many will take none. You can also place a cute sign with a poem about favors (I'm sure if you google it you could find something) and at the bottom you can put one favor per couple or whatever you would like. The only other suggestion is to go and purchase 20 more of something, that you would have enough for everyone to have at least one thing?

We're doing a favor table at my wedding. There will be signs saying that you for coming and please take one. I'm having three types of favors: homemade vanilla extract for the bakers, kvass (a russian bread beer) for the non bakers, and chocolate lollipops for the kids.

I have around 30 of each type of favor, though we're expecting 60-70 people, so that way it doesn't matter if people take more than one. I'm actually more apt to think that people won't take them.

I think it's fine to do, and think it'll be a cute way to give out the favors. The table is small and round and will be close to the door, so guests will see it while walking out.

I like having a big table with a beautiful set up featuring the favors near where the guests will exit. Your venue should be able to help you set something like that up. Another idea is to pair the favors with the place cards so people pick them up as they get their table number.
