Favors? are they necessary?

Jade, on April 12, 2022 at 8:25 PM Posted in Planning 17 23

I spoke with my wedding planner and she is against spending the money on favors. She said you feed them, get them drunk, pay around $200-$300 a person to have an amazing time when you factor in the DJ, etc. what are your thoughts?

I wholly agree. I think they're unnecessary, but nice, if you really want them and can afford them. If not - ditch them!

I was determined that if we were to have favours at all, they'd have to pull double duty somehow, or be disposable - ie, a food/drink product or a soap, hand cream, etc. Not something they'd feel obliged to keep forever like a shot glass, coaster or whatever.

In the end we went for heart-shaped cookies in our wedding colours which doubled up as our name cards. We put little thank you stickers on the back. They were small and could be thrown out or given to another guest if they didn't want to eat them!

I mildly agree with this but I always like to leave my guess with something even when I threw a party so I bought corsages for every female guest it’s coming and their name plates have been customized that they can use them as paper weights later. Or they can throw them away but I did my best to give them something sustainable that made them feel special.

Save your money. Put your budget toward good food, free drinks, great dj that guests remember and great photos for your memories. Nearly every we have attended individually and jointly has had some type of favors and most all of them were left behind. When we were younger, it was common for favors to be a combination of birdseed for tossing (?) , cream cheese mints, and personalized napkins. More recently, some couples have gone with the bubble wands for the send off (which is not a favor) and the candy bar trend with jars of wrapped name brand candy (Kisses, etc) and the couples could not give them away at the end of the night. There are also wedding videos on YouTube and Tiktok that say to skip the favors for the same reason.

We are having a photo booth, caricaturist and palm reader.... plenty of tokens for guests to keep so no favors are being given.

As a former bride, I think favors are a waste of money. Speaking as a wedding guest, I don't care about favors but if there are favors, I would prefer something edible to something gimmicky or which will end up being thrown out.

I am doing cookies as our favors - but that is because we are only having cake for desert and my family likes a variety! Otherwise we would not have been doing favors.

They are nice to have and honestly don't cost as much as you may think to have them but again, it is not necessary so you can surely just leave it out

We're not planning on it. They get left behind or broken more often than not. We're feeding our guests, providing free booze, and having a great DJ. I don't think anybody will be upset they didn't get a party favor.

They didn't give us any back actually!

I can't say for sure if the venue staff threw any extras out (or ate them!), or it could have been other guests who took them. Either way we weren't given any back, but we wouldn't have minded if they were tossed, because they'd still served a useful function since our venue required us to have place names.

My wedding favors are DIY sea shells from dollar tree Smiley smile. Only cost me about $5 bucks too. I’m using them so people can know where they are sitting.

We’re not doing favors, we’re putting the money towards a top end DJ and higher level bar package.

Yes I opted in for Top shelf package at the venue. So I don't think I'm gonna do favors. If I do maybe a cookie or something edible as recommended.

I think favors are a waste of money. No one needs another mug or shot glass with someone else's name on it. LOL! I have a photo booth so I am going to use the 2x6 frames for the photo strip as the place card holder AND the favor. It's a win-win!

I thought that its customary to give a wedding favors we are still giving out favors but I didn't spent that much and something that they will use alot. But what she said is true spending alot of money for them to eat, drink, and dancing. But I still waited for what I want to go on sale and it all is working out and not too much out of our budget. Because we saved on centerpieces and bouquets, bountaires because we are doing it ourselves saved $3,000.
