Favorite Relationship Memories - not wedding related!

Rebecca, on January 4, 2021 at 3:18 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 14

I don't know about everyone else, but it's been Blursday, of Blursmonth for me for about... 8 months. I need a pick me up.

Tell me one of your favorite memories with your FS/DS - NOT wedding related! (So, no engagement stories, no wedding moments, no honeymoon moments - think dating memories!)

While I could easily wax on about how much I love to act with DH ... mostly because a lot of those memories involve me holding a sword to his throat and having him grovel at my feet... I have to say my absolute favorite memory is of us going to Cooperstown, NY.

AKA, the Baseball Hall of Fame!

Most of you know that we had the Phillies/Theatre wedding. A few years ago, though, we had scraped enough money and time off to spend 3 days in Cooperstown, NY. It was our first vacation together since 2013, when we went to ... Spring Training (sensing a theme, huh?). So, it was a huge milestone, and we had SO much fun.

It was 3 days in the "country" - which for us city folk was a big change - we went to the Hall of Fame AND a living 18th century farm, got to have several special dinners out, and stayed at the cutest B&B. Just having the chance for a mini-getaway was so special, and even though our team was mostly mentioned as the losing side of some epic record-breaking event, we had a blast.

No pics on my computer, let me see if I can post some from my phone in a reply.

This was the spot dedicated to 2008, when our team won.

    It was our favorite spot.
Yes, we only wore Phillies gear that whole trip!

It a little bit of a downer, but it was the first time I sorta realized that all I needed was for us to be together. We both work in healthcare and we’re working the night of a really big fire...like really big. We saw things that were really hard. I had started work early and had more people to replace me so I went home only a few hours late. My fiancé worked most of the day. I couldn’t sleep as the world around me literally burned waiting to see if we would be evacuated. When he came over the hug and feeling of finally being complete and that everything would be “ok” is something I will never forget! I have lots of fun memories but that one is always one of my favorites because when things are hard I feel the same way and it changes my perspective

Thank you so much for this post! I’ve been feeling super blah the past week (being held hostage at home for 8 mos by a pandemic is really getting to me). I’ve been in a rut. It was great thinking back about all the amazing things FH and I have done together - from the most tame to wild to life-changing. I couldn’t choose just one memory, so these are my top faves:

The first 2years of our relationship were long distance, and we would take turns visiting each other on the weekends. One of my favorite things was his weekends in St. Louis with me- going out to eat at new restaurants, going to museums or the science center, catching a ballgame, going to a festival, hanging out with my friends, waking up together and having coffee in my apartment, Sunday brunches before he drove back home ❤️ Here he is at an outdoor restaurant before a Cardinals gameFavorite Relationship Memories - not wedding related! 4
Halloween “slumber party” in the living room. We would bring the mattress from our spare room into the living room and stay up late watching Halloween movies (and usually do a 2am donut run 😆)

We would miss each other so much throughout the week, that we would make “halfway dates”- we would meet halfway between visit times at the halfway point between our houses after work one night. We’d both drive 2.5 hours and meet in the middle and stay at the same hotel in the same little town. Then we’d get up at 4 am and drive the 2.5 hours back, straight to work. This is one of the best and worst memories. I had major surgery during our first year dating. So major that I had to live at my parents’ house out of state for 3 months afterward in order to have 24 hr care. The first month after surgery, I had to spend 4 hrs/day in an active motion machine. I had to relearn to walk. I spent over a month on a walker and 5 months after on crutches. I also developed a life threatening complication post surgery and nearly died, which landed me back in the hospital for awhile. It was an incredibly challenging time in my life. And my boo was there for me through it all. He would spend every weekend at my parents house with me, and would drive up several times a week also. I had to sleep in a recliner for months, so he would sleep on the couch with his head next to me every night. I couldn’t bend over, so he would lotion my legs and feet for me, and rub them so I wouldn’t get cramps. It was a very heavy situation early on in our relationship, and he was absolutely amazing and supportive. I knew after this that he was really in this “in good times & bad, in sickness and in health” ❤️Favorite Relationship Memories - not wedding related! 7

Probably the first few months of our relationship. We weren’t living together and still getting to know each other. We would take unplanned random trips (like to the zoo not crazy far!) or stay up late just to see the other when they got off work. Our jobs weren’t super important and schedules super flexible so we were able to drive 2 hrs on a Tuesday afternoon if we wanted.
One day, after maybe 2 years together, he was on vacation as were his best friend and his girlfriend. I had to go into work late. They were all going to breakfast. I went too and then i was going to work. Well we came up with a plan to ride motorcycles to the next state and visit a haunted house. I wound up canceling my job (yes irresponsible) and we went. We had a beer, visited the haunted house, and enjoyed the beautiful! It’s one of my favorite memories and it was so fun, unplanned, and random (and irresponsible, which isn’t me at all). I'm torn between our cruise to the Bahamas and our trip to Las Vegas. I surprised my husband (boyfriend at the time) with a cruise for his 28th birthday. It was the first time he's been on a cruise and his first time going to the Bahamas, we had the most amazing time.
Favorite Relationship Memories - not wedding related! 9Last year we planned a trip to Las Vegas (which was his first time as well) and we had so much fun. We met up with 2 of our friends there and just enjoyed it so much.Favorite Relationship Memories - not wedding related! 10

He's definitely wanting to go back to both places now lol. I love being able to help my husband experience his "firsts". I've traveled a lot so now I look forward to sharing those memories with him 🥰❤️

I don't have any pictures, but we went down to the Gulf Coast for a day - just relaxed, driving around and stopping from time to time. We went to a couple antique stores and poked around and giggled, and then we went to a place called "The Blind Tiger" that overlooks the Bay (in Bay St Louis) and had a couple drinks and split a couple apps. We also went down to the beach and did a little swimming (which ended as soon as we saw jellies in the water!). Just really fun and relaxed - now that I think on it, it may have been the first time we "went out of town" while we were dating.

My absolute favorite is our trip to Canada for our 3 year anniversary. It was both of ours' first times out of the country. We booked the most perfect hotel that was right across the street from Clifton Hill, which alone had a ton of really fun activities and food, and you could see the nightly summer fireworks right in the window of our room. We ate at this really nice restaurant that you could see the Falls from literally any table. We took part in Journey Behind the Falls, which was really exciting. And I went into my first aquarium tunnel.Favorite Relationship Memories - not wedding related! 11

Such a fun thread!! Love reading what everyone else has to say.

Some of my favorite memories in my relationship are when my fiance and I go camping, we usually walk around the entire campground first thing in the morning and also later in the evening. During those walks, we've had so many great conversations and laughs, and those walks have become one of my favorite traditions that we have.

We are memory twins! Mine would also be out trip to Niagara Falls, Canada. It was his first out of the country trip but not my first. We enjoyed the journey behind the falls and late night walks along the Main Street and also ate at a restaurant with the view of the Falls (I can't remember the name). Since this was a road trip from Canada back to VA, we were supposed to make a restroom stop at a gas station in PA but I guess we were so tired we ended up falling asleep in the car in the gas station parking for a couple of hours Smiley xd ...This was around 2am so definitely not the safest spot to fall asleep. But we still laugh about it and swear never to go on another road trip longer than 4 hours.

If I can be honest, it’s when I saw my almost divorced husband kneeled down in tears, admitting all his mistakes in front of my family, looking terrible (at least he lost 20lbs, and he wasn’t overweight to start with), begging me and my family for forgiveness and begging me to come back. It took me months after to accept his apology. I didn’t know I am hurt seeing him hurt and so desperate like that. It was sure a bitter sweet moment but also a moment where I know we can’t live without each other.
