Favorite Movies about Weddings

What are your favorite movies about weddings? As much as I have always loved weddings in movies, I feel that I have had a thorough education in movies about weddings since being engaged. I really felt similar to Steve Martin in "Father of the Bride" as he struggled with the stress, finances, and emotions of planning his daughter's wedding. My favorite part is when he has a bridezilla moment over hotdog buns. I also felt all the emotions while watching "Steel Magnolias." Enough said on that one. But my favorite will always be "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." It's perfect. But I can't help feel like her wedding was easy to plan compared to many modern weddings. All family and friends lived in town. Her church was the obvious ceremony location. And her family covered the reception, food, drinks, and live music. I still love it though.

I like any movie about a wedding! My favorite is NOT the original Father of The Bride with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor, although I enjoy watching it because, by today's standards, it's so ABSURD!! Who decides to get engaged and then casually let it slip at dinner one night. Who doesn't even know what her fiance does for a living!! I find it disturbing though that all that is though of is the wedding itself, not the couple's suitability for eachother, their plans for the present and the future, etc, etc. The absurdity of the whole planning stage is what the movie is about and I do think it's funny, especially seeing all those guests packed into the home and the planner muttering about his "circulation" - great performance by Leo G. Carrol, btw. The remake with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton is actually much better as far as the story - it makes more sense. Runaway Bride and Sweet Home Alabama are cute. I also enjoy TV show episodes about weddings. My faves are when Charlene and her Air Force Colonel get married on Designing Women, and when Max and Fran get married at last on The Nanny. Another one is the I Love Lucy episode, The Marriage License when Lucy thinks their married isn't valid when she finds Ricky's name is misspelled on the license. She makes them go to CT where they were original married and where they honeymooned (I believe the Arnazs actually stayed at the Byram River Beagle Club when they were married). She makes Ricky repeat his proposal and when he teases her by not proposing right away, she gets mad. The go to a local hotel when they run out of gas and she insists they get 2 rooms. Finally the hotel manager and his wife convince them to "get married" and when Lucy dresses in her wedding dress, they are married by the manager, also the Justice of the Peace, with the wife, played by Miss Elizabeth Paterson who is later Mrs. Trumble the babysitter, who sings I Love You Truly.
