father/daugher mother/son dance how does it work

dr, on March 17, 2009 at 12:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

All the weddings ive been to after the bride and groom finish their first time then the parents are invited to dance w/ the bride and groom brides parents first so the bride dances w/ her father and the MIL with the groom. then they ask the grooms parents so the brides parents pair up and keep dancing then the FIL dances with the bride and the groom w/ his mother. How does the father daughter dance go? after what do you do it the same with the mother son dance. Im interested in doing it that way instead of what i have seen before.

    DR,

Ive never seen what you are talking about, what i have seen is the bride and groom dance, then the whole bridal party, then the bride and her father, then the groom and his mother.

I agree with Piggy, I've never seen it the way you described but I've seen it done many times the way she described. but no matter what, you should simply do it the way YOU want to! Very few of us are strictly following traditions and even if we were, traditions vary greatly between cutlures or even families. I will be dancing with my mom instead of my father, for example. Make your own traditions and let your wedding reflect your personal style. It doesn't have to be the way you've seen it done in the past. Have fun with it all, good luck!

Piggy and Laura thanks for the response, I just didnt know how it worked, in our family the way i explained is tradition but i wanted to step away from that and do the father/daughter mother/son dance just because i know those few moments dancing alone w/ them will mean the world to us. So as soon as the bride and father are done dancing they have a seat and the mother/ son do theirs? :0)

Yeah I've always seen it as the bride and groom do their first dance. Then the father/daughter dance, then the mother/son dance. We are doing our first dance upon our introduction and then going into a formal dining room for dinner. After dinner we will go into the dance area where my FH will dance with his mother, then I will do my dance with my mother since ours is a fast-paced dance it will kick off everyone else dancing. So you can mix it up however it suites your needs. I'm sure your parents will appreciate the special time alone with their kids on their wedding day

You can really do what ever you want. I think My FH will be dancing with his mom at the same time as I dance with my dad. FH does not like the idea of being up there by himself and cant pick out a song but loves the song I have for me and my dad (song has more meaning for me and my dad but the words work well for him and his mom too)

    Have fun with it.
