Father Daughter Dance/ Mother Son Dance--- Who picked it?

FutureMrsTurcios, on August 15, 2016 at 12:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

So I'm listening to songs this morning and I'm an absolute blubbering mess. I keep crying!!! But anyways...FH and I were both wondering who picks these songs? Do we pick them and surprise our parents? Or do our parents pick them?

How did ya'll go about it?

Also, I really want to dance a song in Spanish with my dad--any suggestions?

We didn't have a father-daughter dance. DH had no clue what to pick. We let his mom choose. She decided on Beautiful Boy by John Lennon.

I told my Dad I wanted him to listen to some songs and pick one that really meant something to him. When he told me what he picked, I cried like a baby while listening to it! It was a special moment and I can't wait to have the dance with him, I just hope I don't completely ruin my makeup! Smiley smile

My dad and I picked our song (song I was named after) and FMIL picked theirs and FH didn't get a say. But, he hates that kind of thing anyway. People keep asking what he and his mom are dancing to and he says "I don't know" and FMIL and I have to remind him that he's been told a dozen times what song. lol

@Samantha I think i'm going to narrow it down to a few i feel really describe us and our relationship ad then let him pick from there. I'm worried about the same thing, I cried like a baby at my 15 when i danced with him, can't imagine what it'll be like for my wedding.

@Sarah yeah FH isn't really into it himself, he's trying to have me pick it for him.

@Karen, i might have to get together with FMIL to see what she likes in that case.

I have had my father daughter song picked out for like 4 years haha way before I was even engaged! I am not telling ANYONE what it is because it is a surprise for literally everyone. Everytime I listen to this version of the song I literally BAWL my eyes out. Like cannot catch my breath....and I already know my mom and dad are going to cry soooo we will see how it goes haha. It is going to ruin my makeup! I know this song has so much meaning between my dad and I, and the fact I found this other version of it is just perfect for our first dance.

Stepdaughter just got married recently and she asked her dad to pick the song he wanted played during their father/daughter dance. He chose "The Way You Look Tonight."

I'm going to pick the one for me and my dad (I was asking him what he thought and he told me that it's up to me to pick) and then FMIL picked a song called A Mothers Prayer (Country Extended Version) by Melissa Duvall, I had suggested it to her cause it was such a pretty song and she loved it!! FH didn't care!

My FMIL picked the mother/son dance, I asked my dad if he had any ideas and he told me to pick it. My mom actually suggested I use Rainbow Connection since I use to watch the Muppets all the time. I found a beautiful version of the song.

I had my dad pick it.

He chose yo te ame primero by Romanti Montero which is the translation of I loved her first in a soft bachata.

Vicente Fernandez has a beautiful ballad about his daughter but I forgot the name

My Dad and I have been going back and forth on song selection but my Dad has had a lot of input. FMIL and FH have no clue what they're dancing to! She's a huge Disney fanatic and I keep pushing for a Disney song (I had one too many glasses of wine one night and said they should dance to the electrical light parade music - even tried to choreograph it! Lol)

@Clombiana_ac omgoodness!!! I listened to both English and Spanish versions to that song and absolutely balled! I wish I could get them mixed into one. I'm not sure if my daddy will want to dance to a song in English so I'm hoping to get some suggestions. I'll look into the Vicente Fernandez song for sure

    Omg I did too.

The Vicente Fernandez song is mi niña bonita.

Also you can have your DJ mix the songs for you...we are starting with the English version and then transition into the bachata

@Colombiana, I don't even speak Spanish or know the song and just the translation made me teary-eyed!

We're old, all our parents are deceased, so obviously, we aren't having any of those dances. But I remember about 20 years ago, I went to a friend's wedding. Her dad's heritage was Irish and she and her dad had taken a trip to Ireland together--they danced to When Irish Eyes Are Smiling--not a dry eye in the house!

@Colombiana_ac I love that song!! But I will for sure reach out to my DJ and see if he can do that without it sounding too weird after seeing what my dad thinks of it

My dad picked the song for our father/daughter dance! I gave him some ideas but he picked the song. He chose "My Girl" by the Temptations Smiley smile DH's mom at first said she didn't want to do a son/mother dance! But he is her prized child, she's obsessed with her sons (it's annoying as hell lol) so there was no way she really would have been okay with that- I think she was just anxious about it. DH and his mom have an odd relationship so a lot of the mother/son songs seemed too lovey-dovey. I suggested a song I knew she loved- "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts.

I picked them because no one else had any songs they wanted to dance too.

My dad has been kinda cute and researching songs since we got engaged. I have a song in mind and its one he likes but he is still researching and listening to songs. He doesnt like any of the traditional ones so he is trying to find things we would both like.

FH and FMIL havent even discussed or thought about it yet. lol
