FAQ Section on Wedding Website

Christine, on January 28, 2015 at 8:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

I wanna add an FAQ section to our site and I'd like feedback! And I'd like to see what you've included in your own FAQs. Here's what I've got so far, let me know if there's anything you think I should add or change:

Q: What will the weather be like in Charleston?

A: Charleston in October is warm and humid. The average temperature during this time of year is mid 70s, but 80 degree days are very possible as well. It could be cooler at night though, so we recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater.

Q: What should I bring?

A: A light jacket or sweater, an umbrella, walking shoes for the downtown (lots of cobblestone streets), sun screen and bug spray for the mosquitoes.

Q: What should I wear?

A: As the reception will take place in a formal setting we'd love if you matched that. Suits will do fine for the men and cocktail dresses for ladies. Of course if you're itching to dust off a tux or evening gown, feel free!

    Q: Where should I stay?

A: For the most convenience, the downtown area is your best bet. Check out the "Accommodations" page to see the room blocks in the downtown area we have acquired for you. If you'll have a car and are looking for more economical options we recommend staying in West Ashley, a short drive from the downtown. We've also acquired a hotel block in the West Ashley area.

    Q: Do I need a car

A: That depends! If you're going to stay downtown it's not necessary as Charleston is best seen by foot. However, if you'd like to venture outside of the downtown or if your hotel isn't downtown, a car is necessary.

Sounds great- touching on weather, accommodations, formality of event. I also added a note in my FAQs about dinner style (we are having buffet) and that they will be a bar. If you have any potential reason for the ladies to not wear heels, I would make mention of that too. For instance, we are getting married on a deck. Some decks have a lot of open slats that might not be conducive to heels and I might suggest that ladies take that into consideration when choosing their footwear.

Where in Charleston are you getting married? I love that you mentioned the cobblestone streets- something most people won't think about, but those of us that know the area are very aware of. I learned very quickly to either wear flats or wear shoes with a thick heel when walking around downtown.

What to do, how to get around... any of that 'local insiders' kind of advice is always helpful if you're expecting out of town guests. (not sure what your children policy is but, if you are expecting to have friends/family bring children giving kid-friendly places would go a long way, I'm sure!)

Thanks Mrs.Pope! I'm looking over it now :-)

Margaret- We're having the ceremony at the Unitarian Church on Archdale, then ceremony at the Francis Marion Hotel. We did think about ladies and heels, going back and forth from the church and hotel, and between that and the fact that 90% of our guests are out of towners, we decided to get transportation to shuttle people.

Where are you getting married Margaret?

These are all the questions on our FAQ page -

    What time should I arrive?

Are children allowed? Can I bring a date or friend?

    What should I wear?

Can I take pictures during the ceremony?

Will food & drinks be served?

    Will there be dancing?

    What time does it end?

I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?

Beautiful website and it looks like your wedding is going to be a gorgeous fun event! I wonder if it's necessary but perhaps Attire... sometimes people don't know exactly what to wear and what cocktail or formal attire means. Just a thought.. but yes it looks like you've definitely got your bases covered w that separate section Smiley smile

Ooh parking- that was a biggie on our page, especially since parking is prime in Charleston. I would mention parking options at each of the hotels you have blocked out, especially the ones downtown. Some are valet, almost all are pay to park but each hotel picks how they charge. Parking in West Ashley hotels should be no problem.

We are getting married at the Charleston Yacht Club. It's a cute wooden building at the marina right over the Ashley River bridge. The Francis Marion Hotel is beautiful- and a great central location around downtown if guests stay there! Marion Square is right across the street- could be a great place for photos if its not crowded that day.

Loving the website by the way. I may steal your idea and do a whole page on Charleston eats and fun since most of our guests are out of towners. They know how fantastic the city is, for the most part, but listing things to do and places to eat could be really helpful.

This is something I need to do and change on my wedding site. We changed venues which meant a different town. I am also putting a est end time. In my area most weddings go till 2am but I think my venue only allows till midnight. So I will be putting a section of after party locations if they wish to continue drinking.

Margaret- Ahh, we were considering the Yacht Club for a while! It's a beautiful space :-) We def like that people will be able to stay at the hotel (we will be ourselves!) and we got a couple of other hotel blocks right in Marion Square as well. And please, you can even copy and paste the "Charleston" section if you like! I totally took bits and pieces of mine from another Charleston wedding website I came across, haha.

You ladies are reminding me of other sections for sure. So far I'll add:

    Parking

    Photos

    Arrival Time

Kids/Other Guests, maybe (gotta talk to FH about that one)

Randee- Thank you! We're in the midst of brainstorming afterparty spots, since our reception ends at 11, we're just not sure if we're going to have an "official" spot yet or just suggestions.

FH works at a hotel on the otherside of Marion Square- he is supposed to be checking them out for block rates since he works there.

Also, you mentioned Closed for Business on your website- that could be a great after party spot! Its one of our favorite downtown bars.

Ah, the Marriott? Or the Embassy Suites? We got blocks at both of those but they're def pricey and they're booking up FAST apparently.

And yeah! That could be a good spot, hadn't thought of it. Thank you!

Okay, here's what I've added. We decided not to address the kids and extra guests business, or arrival times since we're going to be providing shuttles for people and we'll be giving them that information later on.

Q: Where can I park my car?

A: Outside of the downtown area, parking will be simple and free. Downtown parking is scarce and you will have to pay to park your car, either in a lot or at your hotel. The hotels we have made blocks at have paid self parking and valet parking options, aside from the Town and Country in West Ashley where parking is free.

At the Unitarian Church for the ceremony, there is limited parking behind Gage Hall, otherwise, there are city parking garages at King and Queen Streets, on Market St. behind Forever 21 and on Beaufain St.

    Q: Can I take pictures?

A: During the ceremony we would like our guests to be present with us as we take our vows, so we would prefer if everyone refrained from taking photos.

At the reception, feel free to take as many pictures as you like!
