Family Takeover

Molly, on February 3, 2020 at 5:38 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 5

Do you have any advice on how to politely tell you family and your future family to leave you alone and let you plan things yourself. My family and future family are all great and want to give their input about the reception and ceremony, but they are trying to over complicate everything. I just want a simple laid back wedding that reflects my fiance and I.

I didn't tell my parents many wedding details. That way I kept to myself and my own plans

Stop telling them about planning to help avoid this. If people give you advice, tell them thanks for the suggestion but you and your fiancé have your own vision.

I agree with the previous posters. Share very little details with them and even if they ask try to steer the conversation another way. If it starts to become a problem just nicely say thank you for the input but my fiance and I are going to plan things this way.

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Molly Smiley smile

This is very frustrating I know, many couples deal with overbearing families during planning!

You need to read about the ' Bean Dip Script'. It's all about acknowledging their comments and re-directing them!

Know that you don’t need to address with each person whether or not you will be using their advice/idea. Just keep doing what you're doing and plan the wedding you want Smiley heart

I agree with others keep the details to yourselves. they will hopefully get the hint if not, change the subject when they bring it up. I don't think there is a nice way to tell them to butt out.
