Family Pictures- how many is too many?

Elizabeth, on March 11, 2019 at 12:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

We both have divorced parents. Mine get along well, his do not. Is it too much work to correlate group family pictures with each side of the family? I'm debating if I want to include all of the cousins, etc or not just because it would be each side of the family individually. Any ideas/help is welcome!

My husband's parents are divorced but we forced them all into one group picture. We wanted simple family portraits with just immediate family so it took about 15 minutes for all pictures with them. If parents can't be in the same room or picture let your photographer and coordinator know. When I was casually chatting with our photographer she said she had some weddings like that where parents couldn't be in the same room for whatever reason so they would do pictures with mom for 5 minutes then she would leave and dad would come in. Photographers deal with this all the time so just speak to yours.

My fh parents are divorced. We plan on having them in the same room for some group family photos and that's it...they dont get along and don't talk but we think they would put it aside for one day

Trust me our families are the kings and queens of angry divorces. Here’s my photo shot list maybe it will help you.

I think if you work with your photographer on a shot list that is sensible (most people to least people, one side of the family first, then the next, all the group photos in one location so you aren't moving bunches of people place to place) then it can be done pretty quickly, especially with two photographers. Will you have two shooters, or a photog and an assistant?
