Family Photo Etiquette

So my fiance's father will be bringing his...wait for it...SIXTH wife to our wedding. It's all good, but I'm wondering about the etiquette of family photos. Do you guys think that it's reasonable to have the photographer take a couple of family photos with her in them, and the rest of the photos...
So my fiance's father will be bringing his...wait for it...SIXTH wife to our wedding. It's all good, but I'm wondering about the etiquette of family photos. Do you guys think that it's reasonable to have the photographer take a couple of family photos with her in them, and the rest of the photos without her in them? I feel like most people would understand, but my father-in-law's wife is very sensitive and I have a feeling that she may be offended if we ask her to step out of photos so that we can get photos with just my fiance's parents in them. I don't want to be mean, but come on...

I don't think its unreasonable to ask her to step out for some photos. However, I look at life like a journey, and her being if your life is part of your journey. Even though my mom has gotten divorced, I still enjoying looking through her old photos of her ex husband. Although my uncle has gotten divorced, I still see Facebook "On This Day" posts/photos from years ago with her in them. I don't think it's necessarily fair to exclude her in your photos just because she's number six..

I don’t know why it would be rude to only do photos with his biological parents, as long as his stepdad (if there is one) is also excluded when stepmom is. My FH is doing photos with all his parents, and a few with just his mom and dad. As long as you do both, and don’t ONLY exclude her, it should be fine.

You have every right to get some photos with just your immediate family, and I don't think it's odd at all. Make sure you specify what shots you want for your photographer, don't just say "Family pictures!" That is what will make it awkward. Your photographer will coordinate and you wont need to say a thing.

It is rude to exclude her from all photos. However, you can ask your photographer to take ones with just the 3 of you. Maybe make sure she's at the end so worst case if something does happens you can always crop her out.

My FSIL had me in her family portraits which took me by surprise. I honestly didn't think I would be included. FMIL gifted FH with a family photo she took herself before the professional ones were done. It happened to be one I wasn't in. I wasn't upset because I knew she didn't do it intentionally. FH pointed it out to her and she was horrified lol.

Both my husband and I have blended families, so we did photos with and without step-parents. It worked great. I explained it to my photographer, and she called it out. We started with "just us" (biological family) and then added spouses. We did that with all our family photos. So for example, I have a photo with just my mom and her sisters (my aunts) without spouses, which they haven't had a photo together in decades. No one was offended b/c we applied it across the board, our photographer called it out, and it moved fast, so no one really noticed.

It's his wife. You have to include her. Not her fault that your dad has been married before.

I think out of respect have her in just a few pics and definitely take some without her since she may be temporary. Sorry if that's rude but if your dad gets married again you gotta look back at this lady who is no longer relevant in your life in all your pictures.... I don't think so

See I don’t think it’s rude at all. I was dating a guy before my FH and he was in some family pictures and now I look at these pics and see his face. I agree with others here, include her so her feelings don’t get hurt, but have your photographer explain when it’s time for bio-parents and when it’s time for step parents! My FH isn’t taking pictures with his father nor step mother at all, but he has a terrible relationship with his dad and step mom. It’ll only be his mother and step father.

I think it is rude, she is his wife 1st , 2nd, or 100th.

I would keep it simple with just biological parents that way no one feels ate hurt and there's no copy and pasting of heads when they are over for family dinner. No new wife wants to walk in the house and see the old wife in all the photos ijs

Sounds to me like you are already planning to include her in the photos so asking her to Not be in all the family photos is totally not unreasonable. I would say make sure you get a photo with you, FH, FFIL and her and that way she really has no room to complain. you won't be disrespectful or exclusionary and no one should expect to be in every photo. not even you and hubby.

I think including her is the way to go BUT also I think which-ever wife is more of a "mother figure" (even if that isn't his actual mother) should have a bigger part in the family photos. And that would mean excluding his current wife from some of the photos. And even if she is a little sensitive to that, it is the right thing to do, in my opinion.
