What color should the mother of the bride and mother of the groom wear for the wedding? How coordinated should they be? Our wedding colors are light pink and steel blue.

    Hey there, Mallorie!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Smiley smile

A mother of the bride and the mother of the groom don’t have to necessarily wear one of the wedding colors, however, as they’re going to be featured in a lot of photos, they often choose a color which complements the wedding color palette, along with the bridesmaids dress neckline and fabric.

Will you be going dress shopping which each lady?

It isn't necessary for them to wear your wedding colors. I would kindly just tell her that she can wear any color she wants expect for whatever color your dress is since no one should wear the same color as the bride.

At my wedding, each of our mothers wore a dress in an alternative shade of blue. One of our colors was navy.

I picked colors that go with ours, but not matchy matchy. I think Navy is often a good options for MOB and MOG.

It's totally up to you. I told my mother what our wedding colors are, but added that she can wear what she wants. As long as it's not white!

Our wedding colors are plum and lavender. My mom and MIL are not matching. They are wearing a complimentary color to purple. My mom is wearing navy, and my MIL is wearing a bluish gray. They don't need to match your wedding colors. They could even wear whatever color they wanted, but I think it's nice to at least have them in a complimentary color. And they don't have to be in the same complimentary color. With the light pink and steel blue, a shade of purple would be nice. Dark or light purple both look nice with pink and blue.

We didn't coordinate at all. They asked and I recommended earth tones but was okay with anything.
