Family Coming In Early Before or Staying After the Wedding?

Rebecca, on October 20, 2019 at 7:55 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 9
My future FIL is in town for business and asked us if we thought we wanted everybody (FH’s parents, sisters, both sets of grandparents) to spend extra time before or after the wedding to “visit.” They’re talking a few days minimum. We leave for the honeymoon about a week after we get married, so everyone staying a couple of days after wouldn’t be an issue for us in that regard.

Which would you pick? More time before or after?

I forgot to add: we live in Illinois and they’re all coming in from California. Only FH’s mom, dad, and sisters have been to visit us in IL before.

Will they want you to entertain them while they are in town? You will be busy the days before and won’t have a lot of extra time.

    I would pick after.

Definitely after because you will be busy before the wedding.

After. You’ll be more relaxed and able to focus on your guests.

About 1/3 of daughter/SIL's guests were OOT/international. The first of them arrived 6 days before and the last of them left 7 days after. It was awesome, but a little overwhelming and exhausting at times. Daughter took the week prior to the wedding off, so she had flexibility to see different people at different times. We live in So Cal, so most guests had their own plans for entertaining themselves, at least some of the time. NO ONE stayed with the B&G or either set of parents. From mid-afternoon Friday until the start of the wedding late-Saturday afternoon, B, G, FOB & I didn't spent time with any OOT guests, except the wedding party members.

Our out of town (most are out of country actually) guests are coming right before the wedding and staying the week afterwards. We pushed our honeymoon out a week so that we can visit with them. I will probably be too stressed before the wedding to handle all of the guests lol.

We didn't have any time before, we were busy. We had time Friday at the rehearsal dinner & hanging out at the hotel bar, for our Saturday wedding, but that's it. I'd pick after.
