False Eyelashes - a DO or a DON'T??

nikki , on January 24, 2011 at 10:27 AM

I have wimpy, basically non-existent eyelashes & was thinking of trying false eyelashes for my wedding day. Is anyone else doing this? I would definitely want to try them several times before the actual day so does anyone have any brand suggestions?? Thanks

Karen don't waste $20 or whatever on brand name glue. That's just silly. Glue is glue and so long as its black you should be fine. Also, stay away from the Laura Mercier lashes. They're plastic and it shows up on pictures! Not very pretty plus they're expensive.

You can get real hair "fake" lashes at Sally's or any other beauty supply store for $5 or less and they have all different styles. Those are the type I liked the best. Wear for one day and remove when you're done. If you really want to, you can reapply them for one or two more days if the glue isn't too gunky.

I need training on how to get them on! lol MY FSIL got the 2 week lash extensions and they were gorgeous. She also had her own eyelashes dyed to match. She could literally roll out of bed looking like she had long, fabulous eyelashes. I am willing to fork over $50 to wear them for 2 weeks.

I had some brides do fake lashes and have seen some really good outcomes and some REALLY BAD ones. From the photographer side I recommend going minimal. I had one bride have such dark, thick, and long lashes added in you could hardly see the whites of her eyes in the pics.

I use them all the time! Here is my advice:

    1. I get the MAC individual ones (I wouldn't use the really long ones if they are for wedding picts)

    2. White Glue that dries clear (the white helps to see what you are doing)

    3. Tweezers with a sharp point (you can get closer to your lid when applying)

    4. A mirror that magnetizes so you can see what you are doing

    5. Grab a lash with the tweezers then dip in glue! (I usually do 5 lashes per eye then switch. If you have too much glue it makes a HUGE mess)

    6. After the lashes are dry (can't see the glue anymore) I use Magic Lash Mascarra (cheap and found at Alta), it isn't too think and it blends in your natural lashes with the false.

Practice a lot with the cheapies. You will be a pro in no time!

I can put mine on in less than 5 minutes!!!!! And everyone LOVES themSmiley smile

False lashes are a must on my wedding day... LOVE them.... I find the brand isn't as important as knowing how to apply them. Even the cheap brands can work great.

They kind of roll/peel off, they don't ruin your eyelashes. I have had not problem with them and I use to wear them a lot. I suppose if you were really sensitive you might have a problem.

@Ms. G, i usually just peal mine right off or you can use makeup remover. Like Holly said, it won't ruin your natural lashes!

Like Holly and August said, they peel right off. They don't damage your lashes at all. Super easy

I will not be using them, I have a cousin that loves them and next day after she got them the glue came off and they was hanging, my fh laughed at her. He does not like the make-up he likes natural beauty. I would get your FH opinion on it. Mine would say Hell No! LOL I will have light make up if any of my wedding day.

For me,I think the brand of glue is important.

I used the brand that came with my lashes a few times and most of the time it worked okay, but I didn't feel they were as 'stuck' as I wanted. Then I tried the DUO glue and I LOVE IT!!! It's drug store brand and it was less than $7 and will last a long time for me.

I agree- Mac has the BEST eyelash bar! BUT you have to be comfortable in what you are wearing. I would suggest you go have eyelashes put on for a date night and see how you feel.

If you love them, why not?

I would also go to Sephora. I bought some MAKE UP FOR EVER brand (waterproof, of course) and it worked wonderfully. If you purchase something (anything- could be a small lotion or a cheap something) the people at Sephora will make you over and help you find the right product.

Falsies kick butt. I love them and with practice it didnt take me long to learn to apply my own. I agree with Konichiwa's friend about the CVS or beauty supply brands....they IMO are just as nice as the more expensive temp lashes. The best glue is is a brand called duo. They have it in clear and black.

They are beautiful as long as they fit the shape of your face and the style of your wedding and they are done correctly! Good luck!

Eyelashes are a MUST for your eyes to show up in a photo.

Trust me ...you will LOVE them. I get brides all the time that say they dont think they want them...and 30 seconds after they are on and they see themselves...they are in love with them.

I tell them...at first it will feel like a butterfly has landed on your eyes..but after 30 seconds you wont feel them at all anymore.

Ardell makes GREAT lashes and the ones I always use. And the black glue is good if you can find it. But dont despair.. the white glue dry's clear ...and then a black eyeliner or black shadow applied over it makes it completely invisable.

Practise a few times first if you are doing your own makeup...but if you are hiring an artist and she tells you to wear the lashes..trust her and GO FOR IT...You will love them.

Be GORGEOUS.. and have a beautiful wedding ~

Store bought lashes peel off. The lash extensions I'd recommend going into the salon because they have a remover solvent they use. Otherwise, they start to fall off but stick to your existing lashes and people are inclined to pull them off. If you do that, you can pull out your own lashes as well. The salon person can remove them safely.
