Fake Hair?

ReadAllAboutIt, on July 28, 2016 at 8:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

Hi Ladies -

I'm not sure if it is from all of the stress, or something else, but my hair is falling out like crazy and I'm starting to really worry! I bought some special shampoos and so far a week later nothing has changed. I can see way more of my scalp than I ever have before and I know that it will be more obvious if my hair keeps falling out at this rate. I'm so scared I'll be obviously balding on my wedding day! I'm getting kind of desperate and I'm starting to consider fake hair for the big day. My questions:

1) Anyone have this happen to them and what did you do to fix it?!

2) How do you even go about buying fake hair, but hair that doesn't look super fake?

3) What kind do you buy? How do you make sure it stays in?

Thanks so much in advance!

I agree with Beachy. Hair loss like that can be a first sign of medical issues, including the thyroid.

Doctor. And in thr meantime you could look into clip in extensions, but that will do nothing for thinning near the scalp. Also, if you suspect your hair is falling out because you're that stressed, mention that, too! ETA:sorry I didn't answer the question. Get real human hair extensions. This DID happen to me one time and it was my thyroid.

I went through that during a really stressful time. I was eating mostly junk food and stressed out constantly. I took vitamins, changed my diet and worked out and it stopped for the most part. I still shed a lot of hair now but not in clumps like it was before. Have you been eating healthy and enough protein? I'm a pescatarian and I think part of it is not getting enough protein and iron in my diet.

Definitely first stop needs to be the Dr... I recently asked my dr. about the same thing and she ran tests for metabolism and thyroid, a lupus test, and has me setting an appointment to talk to a dermatologist about alopecia. I have a bit more time before my wedding than it seems you do, but I have started thinking about wigs and stuff if it keeps getting worse or doesn't get better. Maybe ask your hair stylist for a recommendation? I know a couple work friends buy wigs and hair extensions at beauty supply stores. Hope you figure it out!

OP you need to get yourself to the doctor to see what the problem really is.

I don't have any good suggestions on fake hair or anything but maybe you should talk to a hair stylist to see if they have any suggestions.

I'm really sorry this is happening to you. And I hope everything is okay with your health. Good luck OP. My thoughts are with you.

You can try taking a hair skin and nails vitamin! I can recommend a really good one but I also agree, go see a doctor to be on the safe side!

Have you made any drastic changes to your diet in the last several months? Even if they're healthy changes, drastic changes can cause hair loss. Also, those special shampoos take several weeks to start helping.

I definitely agree it sounds like a visit to your doctor is in order. Get some labwork done and a checkup. Hair loss could just be due to diet or stress, but it could be a sign of something bigger that needs attention.

Well everyone had already said that you need to see an MD. You are probably stressed and depressed I'm sure. But as far as the extensions or fake hair I can help you.

Hair can be extensive or not very expensive at all. You can get the hair on a wig, sewed in,applied with glue or you can buy clip in's.

If you want to achieve a certain look for that day you will be fine with one of these methods.

Def see doctor. The same thing is happening to me and my wedding is in two months. Talk about freak out mode! I am in the process of being tested for thyroid and auto immune diseases Smiley sad however in the meantime I have upped my protein intake - started a prenatal vitamin to help with hair- eating jello daily (for gelatin) and not styling as much. Best of luck!

As PPs have mentioned, go to the doctor for sure. I've previously had both clip in and sewn in extensions (for length) and both can be beautiful if you buy human hair! I bought mine from Sally Beauty. These can be dyed to match your natural hair color. Extensions will not be able to hide any hair loss around your hair line or part though, so keep that in mind! Also I always take a biotin supplement just to keep my hair and nails healthy.

I hope you figure out what's going on! Xx

Of course #1 go see a doctor. I experienced significant hair thinning from taking hormonal BC. It took 6ish months after starting the BC for me to notice. It's apparently a pretty rare side effect, but can happen. Just figured I would mention that in case you have recently started or changed BC.

I bought clip in extensions at Sally's Beauty Supply. They match the highlights in my hair. No one can tell they're fake!!!! Have a hairdresser put them in for you/teach you how to use them discreetly. They were around $100. They're amazing. I did it so my hair would look fuller when styled for my wedding.

People keep asking if I'm wearing them or not. No one can tell!!!

As others have mentioned, please go to the doctor first. On the hair extension front: definitely human (remy) hair only. A lot of synthetic hair can't handle the heat of a curling iron. Right now I have tape in extensions by Donna Bella. I love them! I've also done clip ins and sew in. If you're losing a lot of hair, clip ins may be harder to hide. I would consult a stylist about the best option. I did extensions now as a test run for my wedding day.

I've had this happen to me in the past. I was going through a divorce, extremely stressed and not eating like I should. As a result I lost a lot of weight quickly and my lack of nutrition caused my hair to thin by almost half. The good news is when I started eating better and taking better care of myself it grew back. It just took a while. Definitely see a Dr though as there are many reasons for hair loss.

I'm a little late to the party, but I actually just posted about this exact thing. I have PCOS so I went to a dermatologist to see if that was the cause of it (hello androgenic alopecia-- thank you google for teaching me that term). I can see way more of my scalp then I remember, but I don't feel stressed unless I'm just internalizing it and causing my hair to shed excessively.

I would not jump to fake hair until you know the cause of the hair loss. They ran a panel of blood tests for me, with the only result being Vitamin D deficiency. Go to your doctor, but also go to a dermatologist that specializes in hair loss to help get to the root of the problem BEFORE it gets out of hand.

Please keep us updated, and if you need someone to talk to you can always email me at ************@***.*** ... I'm going through the exact same thing and FH just doesn't get it.

I'll be wearing my fake hair for sure. Except it's real hair...just doesn't happen to belong to my scalp. You can dye it, brush it, treat it like its your own. Your hairdresser should make sure it's secure. And make sure it's dyed to match your own. Here is mine!
