Fake hair?

Erin, on October 14, 2015 at 4:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

So, I have to be honest, over the summer I didn't take very good care of my hair. It became so damaged, brittle, and horrible looking from all of the chlorine (I have a pool), sun, and heat processing damage. I have been trying so hard to grow my hair out to be long, thick, and flowing (like a mermaid LOL!) but I broke down and finally went to the salon.

I had a deep conditioning done and hair cut. Although my hair is not "short" (it is a few inches past my collar bone) I feel so discouraged by the fact that I know how slow my hair grows and it won't be the length I want it to be in about 7 months for my big day. I am dedicated to keeping my hair healthy now and I'm proud to say that it feels good but I'm still sad I'm starting over.

So the big question is should I consider HAIR EXTENSIONS for the day of? I plan to style my hair in, romantic curls, half up/half down style with my veil. What do you think of hair extensions? Is it a genius way to "cheat" for length or awful idea?

Clip ins are great. So is the halo. There's no harm in wearing an easily removable hair extension.

I would do clip in extensions, not the ones they have to glue in because it will just damage your hair even more. I was going to do extensions, but I am wearing my hair up now and they wont be needed.

ALSO, take the vitamin biotin, it will help your hair grow longer and healthier...as well as your nails and skin. I've been taking that as well!

I would say, yes! I used extensions and was in love with my hair! I wanted volume and a full bun and it couldn't have happened without extensions. I used clip-ins from Sally beauty supply and they were great! They blended right into my natural hair color and honestly even I couldn't tell where the real left off and the fake began!

@Angela what brand of biotin do you take? have you had any side effects? I've tried it in the past and it made me break out along my jawline. My sister had the same problem. I'd like to try it again but I am wary about it.

I used clip in extensions to give my hair a little extra length and a whole lot of volume. I would totally recommend using them to achieve the style you want for your day.

My hair stylist is considering doing extensions for me too. You basically can't get the volume in many photos without extensions (unless you're blessed with the best hair ever!). For the look you posted, I think extensions would be great. Work with your stylist or whomever is doing your hair the day of to pick out the best options for your color, texture, length and style.

@annakay511 your hair looked stunning! It looks so thick and healthy! VERY NICE!!

@Angela I actually am taking biotin. I'm not sure if it's having much of an effect on my hair, although I'm most critical about my hair LOL! BUT it makes my nails EXTRA strong and they grow super fast and strong to begin with. I'm hoping that it IS helping promote healthy, strong hair growth!

If I can't achieve the style I want with my hair, I will totally use clip in extensions! (And no, not on the Frozen bandwagon - I've never even seen the movie. Saw the style before I realized it was Elsa's.)

@briana9 I haven't chosen a hair stylist yet, but I am just now realizing that I don't know how I would find the appropriate colors, texture, length, and style like you're talking about. Is your stylist choosing all of that for you? I am blessed with naturally golden blonde hair but I'm just now realizing how difficult it may be to find a matching color... ALSO, our wedding dates are a day apart!!!! =)

@prettysweet I take NatureMade, I havent had any side effects

@Erin...I usually take two capsules a day, and people have noticed my hair has gotten longer. But I agree I am a critic of my own hair too and sometimes wonder where people see my "Long" hair haha

ALSO, the hair stylist should be able to dye the extensions so they they match your hair color

I say go for it! I have clip in extensions that I've used for almost every wedding I've been in and for e-pics. I also had tape in ones to add volume when I was Miss Rodeo SD and LOVED them. They were tape in strips and were much easier on my hair and stayed in better than the individual strand style. If you're wanting the length for more than just your wedding day, I would highly recommend the tape in strips. I didn't experience any damage to my hair from them and they were way more comfortable than my clip ins.

    Also @Erin your stylist should be able to tweak the color to match perfectly as long as it's real hair;

Doooo it!! I grew my hair out for a year before my wedding (my stylist and I developed a plan, I was taking hair and nails vitamins, the whole nine yards), but I STILL knew that I'd be getting extensions as well - they add so much volume and fullness (in addition to length). The clip in ones are awesome and you can re-wear them! Make sure you get real human hair though. I would stay away from the glued in ones - they can be really damaging to your hair.

Yes! I have purchased extensions to wear for the day of and I love them! I'm in the same boat, my hair has gotten long but not long enough/it's thin. So the extensions give it a boost that doesn't look unnatural. You can have a local hair dresser dye real hair if you need it or have them match it to your hair before you buy!

I would just consider getting a trial with them in and not leaving it till the day of as I know for me it's been a bit of a learning curve but I love it!

WOW! I'm loving all of the great feedback ladies! My next question though... is how much? How much is all of this going to cost? I'm anxious to find a stylist now!

My Remy extensions were like $130 from Sally Beauty. But considering the clip ins can be used multiple times if taken care of, its not a bad price. I forget how much hair I got, but there was one 4 clip weft, three 3 clip wefts, and like four single wefts. It was more than enough. The pic is from my trial.

I got a pompadour three months before my fiance proposed and have been growing my hair out ever since, I will have to use extensions and I know lots of people who get extensions for their weddings! I highly suggest Foxy Locks!

I brought some clip in ones cos although my hair is long it's not thick...

I got the closest I could to my already highlighted hair.

On Saturday I took them with me to hairdresser and asked her to make my hair the same colour, she did it perfectly! Not getting married till feb next year, but at least they match
