Fake Eyelashes - to wear or not to wear?

Anne, on September 20, 2016 at 12:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 46

I know everyone says fake eyelashes make such a big difference but I have a feeling I will find them uncomfortable... do you think my eyelashes will make enough of an impact in photos? This is with a couple coats of mascara.

I didn't use them. I don't like the idea of trying to look like someone I'm not. My DH likes less makeup anyway, so I just did my daily routine for make up and had my hair done. Plus - I'm like you and find them uncomfortable.

Thanks @MrsMcPherson! I like your idea of using my "getting ready" money to get my hair done and then just do my normal makeup myself

They're "heavy" for literally an hour, if that. You could use lighter ones. Your eyelashes are long so it's up to you.

ETA: I kind of resent your statement McPherson. " I don't like the idea of trying to look like someone I'm not" that's not the point of makeup. It's suppose to enhance your features, not make you look like someone else

Exactly. My hair was much more important to me than my makeup. I wanted to look natural, and I also know how to do my makeup. So I saved that money for something else that made more sense to me.

Yes, absolutely yes. With full makeup your eyelashes get lost in photos. They are annoying at first and then you forget about them (until the day ends and then you'll be so over them). You have really long lashes but you will need them filled out for them to make any kind of impact with your eye makeup, especially in photos. I had one bridesmaid refuse them at first until she saw how underdone she looked compared to the rest of us. If you aren't convinced, do the one eye test so you can see the difference.

I have long lashes too, but fake lashes really make your eyes stand out in photos....even if you feel like it's a bit much in real life. So I'll be wearing fake lashes.

@AlmostMrsE I didn't mean to offend you. I apologize. Maybe I said it wrong? In my personal opinion (which is what was asked for) I don't like looking like someone I'm not. For me - a ton of makeup, fake eyelashes, etc is not me. I have never looked like that, and doing that for the day-of just seems silly. That isn't who my DH fell in love with. He fell in love with me - plus he likes less makeup anyway. He dislikes the fake look. So I'm sorry if I offended you, but that is my own personal opinion.

I'm getting extensions so i don't have to use fake eyelashes, only a few clusters so to fill in gaps (i have a big gap in the middle of my right eye from a chicken pox scar.)

Your eyelashes are so long and pretty! I'd maybe try little clusters instead of a strip just to make them pop. They aren't as heavy.

On Sat. I was speaking with a woman who does hair/mu for weddings. She doesn't use the full strip kind of eyelashes. She uses the little clusters which she said look much more natural.

People usually do heavier/more dramatic makeup to make it stand out in pictures. Typically every day makeup doesn't show up in photographs. It's not about "not looking like yourself" If you find a good makeup artist, the idea is that you should look like yourself but a bit more polished in the photos...

Big yes!!! Make sure you trim the corners so they actually fit your eye, it makes a huge difference with how comfortable they feel. If there's a Sally's near you, pick up some Ardell lashes. I've worn lashes for years and those are favorites for me!

Also, I wouldn't suggest much mascara, if any, with falsies. Curl and cost your natural lashes first then apply the lashes after. Mascara can really make them look more unnatural. Experiment with different styles, photograph yourself in them and see what works for you.

And most importantly! Watch 1000 YouTube videos on how to apply! It'll save your sanity. Good luck!

Try them out to see if you like them. I hated lashes when I tried them in the past and will never do them again.. I don't care what the pic looks like lol

I'd definitely opt for eyelash extensions. I can't stand the stick on lashes but eyelash extensions are hardly even noticeable but they look great. I have some on right now Smiley smile

I have only worn them twice in my life and I LOVE them! I am sort of fair skinned with light hair and light features and they didn't look too dramatic on me. Actually probably couldn't tell unless you really looked or knew. However, your eyelashes are to die for whereas mine are short and wimpy sooo...

Fwiw I think your eyelashes are lovely and some dark brown or black liner will "fill" them. General opinion on here is YES to fake lashes of some form, but you have to be comfortable with whatever choice you make. Has your FH seen you in them?

Here's an example of me with a decent amount of makeup on with no lashes (left), and makeup with lashes (right). No mascara used.

They will feel a little weird at first, but you will get used to them fairly quickly.

Fake lashes, believe it or not, will give your eyes a boost and look a lot more natural than the mascara you have on in that photo.

I would totally do them! I thought mine were a little much in the mirror but they look amaze-balls in the photos. And you don't need mascara with them so no worries about tears messing up your makeup.
