Fajitas At The Wedding?

FH wants a fajita bar at the wedding. My mom commenced level 5 pearl-clutching, because this means we will not be doing a sit-down dinner, but fajitas are delicious so we're doing it.

The problem I'm running into is that I'm questioning what to serve with it. Originally we were doing a salad starter, but now I'm thinking that we're already lettuce-ing them up with the fajita bar, so would a soup be a better choice?

We were also going to offer two different entrees, but it seems weird to serve, say, either fajitas or steak, as steak is perceived as higher-end, so they don't 'match'.

An option the caterer suggested is to do only fajitas, except we can offer chicken, shrimp, and steak fajitas to get some sort of variety. Is that enough variety?

Any suggestions are welcome.

I think rice would be great with fajitas and also doing different protein options. The nice thing about it being a fajita bar is guests can conjure up whatever combo they want! I agree steak is too fancy when paired with fajitas but steak fajitas sound delicious.

    Man I want fajitas now.

I love weddings with non traditional wedding food! We are doing pizza. Yes, pizza. And we couldn't be more excited about it. They are speciality pizzas and we get to create our own for our wedding!

I would still offer a salad. If you have any vegetarians/vegans they won't be able to eat the fajitas and then if the soup isn't safe for them either they are screwed (keep in mind even if none of the visible ingredients are meat a soup still might be a meat broth base and therefore non-veggie). Plus a salad is a nice fresh option for those who don't want to eat hot food. I don't know when your wedding is but if it's anytime warm a salad is a nice alternative top hot fajitas and soup. Plus if you have anyone who just runs really hot and therefore doesn't love hot food they have the salad.

@Karen, personally I would only be ok with shooters if you just mean small container but still with a spoon. Somehow drinking soup is truly disgusting to me. I HAVE to eat it with a spoon.

@sasswood I was going to say chicken tortilla soup!!! You can do Mexican inspired passed apps as well if you're doing a cocktail hour. I think a chicken, shrimp, steak, veggie fajita bar sounds awesome!

I actually really like this. Chicken, shrimp, steak, with lots of veggies and beans for the option of vegetarian. Soup would be good too!

Mm... I'm dreaming of an avocado tortilla soup... And steak and shrimp fajitas...

So, short answer.. YES! Have a fajita bar! You can always do mushroom fajitas for vegetarians?
