Failed to return completed marriage license to cc within 10 days.

I'm freaking out and I hate myself right now.

My marriage license is valid until June 1st. I, being an idiot, assumed that meant I had until June 1st to return the completed license to the county clerk.

I got married on May 5th.

I'm going tomorrow morning, May 17th. It'll have been 12 days.

"Return the remaining two copies of the license to the Wayne County Clerk's office in the enclosed envelope within 10 days after the date of marriage"

I was planning on taking it myself for same day processing so I didn't have the officiant mail it. Stupid me didn't realize I had a 10 day window.

I live in Michigan.

What's going to happen?

They’re either going to accept it or they aren’t. Some clerk offices will still push them through, others won’t, and there’s really no way of knowing until you talk to them.

Yikes. At this point all you can do it hope they accept it! I have no idea what the likelihood of that is, but I’ll send you some positive thoughts!

Worse case scenario you and H have a courthouse wedding to make it legal. Best case, they push it through. It shouldn't take away from the day you already had. Hope it all works out!

Sigh of relief for me! They took it. The woman at the front desk said as long as you get married before the expiration date on the license it's fine.
