Facials - how long before the wedding

Future_Lobos, on August 22, 2013 at 11:06 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hi Ladies - I'm setting up a spa day for myself before the wedding. As far as facials go, how far out should it be? My wedding is in one month so I may be pushing my luck.

ETA: I should know better to search first....but in the meantime, advice welcome Smiley smile

Depends on your skin type and what kind of facial you are getting. If you are getting any kind of chemical peel I would go two to three weeks before so your skin has time to heal. It can take weeks for redness and irritation to calm down after a peel. If you have fair or tender skin definitely two weeks before for any treatment. Even natural facials can cause some reaction.

Whenever you go, enjoy!!! Love days of pamper!!!

Oh good question. My mom works in a beauty shop and the one lady she works with offered to give us facials before the wedding. I think they are scheduled for 2 days before. maybe not such a good idea?

I was going to plan for the weekend before but maybe I'll do two weeks before. While I'd love to do a peel someday, with only a month to go I'd rather not risk a horrible reaction.

I was considering a facial peel or a lifestyle lift. Does anyone know the difference between the two?

    Date twin : )

I say 2 weeks out. But that is coming from a bride with sensitive skin. 2 weeks is enough time for your skin to heal if you do have any type of reaction, which I’m sure you won’t. But just to be on the safe side!

Thanks Lindsay Smiley smile I think you're all right...two weeks is better. I've never had a reaction before but it's been quite a few years since I've had a facial.

Robin - I have never heard of a lifestyle lift

I would try a facial now, and see how your skin reacts. I never use moisturizer because I don't feel like I need it. I got a little dry this winter and bought a facial moisturizer that had great reviews. I had a bad allergic reaction to something in it and my face was red and bubbly. Like Poison ivy. Luckily after a few days of heavy steroids the itching and redness went away, but I was on prednisone for weeks. It was brutal. So lesson is - always try it first. Don't wait until a day or two before the big day!

I am starting a facial regimen, one facial per month starting in September (my wedding is in March), with my last facial 2 weeks before my wedding. I made a barter deal with my esthetician. I can't wait to have perfect skin! Lately I've been breaking out like a teenager!!

I had a facial several months before my wedding...I don't know that I'll ever have one again. 2 weeks later I was broken out (I NEVER have zits) and had red marks all over my face...maybe the person that did my facial was too aggressive, but I'd do it FAR in advance.

As stated above, I'd go at least two-three weeks before your wedding. When you get a facial, it brings all of the bacteria to the surface of your skin causing said breakouts. It's not the facial itself that causes them, (unless it is a dirty spa that could cause a rash), but the bacteria that would have caused a breakout anyway. 2 weeks is ample time for your breakout to heal giving your a skin a beautiful "glow." However, if you've never had a facial before, honestly, I would forgo it. If you got one, say today, and your skin reacts badly, you could end up with read splotches or damaged pores that wouldn't heal in time for your big day. Granted, a good make-up artist could fix that right up, but your skin may not be what you have always envisioned. 4 weeks is not a lot of time to start changing up your skin care routine and personally, I wouldn't risk it.

I usually recommend at least three weeks, when you have a facial done you are cleaning your pores and there may be bacteria and even that emerge after the facial that were trapped in the pores.

Thanks for all the input ladies. I think I might forgo the facial for now and stick to the massage and body scrub since I'm so close to the wedding. I'd rather not risk breakouts and reactions.
