Facial a week before the wedding, bad or good idea?

Jaimie, on April 9, 2014 at 8:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

I booked a facial eight days before the wedding, but I'm hearing that I may want to move it up a week or two due to possible breakouts. I've never had one before and am treating myself for the wedding. Is a week before too soon?

Yes, move it up to about three weeks before your wedding. First time facials almost always cause breakouts because it brings the bacteria that's under your skin to the surface. You don't want to chance having a breakout on your wedding day!

Honestly though, one facial before your wedding isn't going to make a ton of noticeable difference in your skin. To be safe, I would recommend not getting a facial before your wedding if you are unsure how your skin will react to it.

Agreed - definitely move it, especially if you never had one before! In addition to the breakouts, you never know how your skin will react to the products.

VERY bad idea. Move it up. I've had horrible reactions and if you have never had a facial before - a week before your wedding is not the time to try it.

Side note - which spa are you going to? (We are from the same area and I used to work at one so I'm curious).

Honestly, I went a few weeks ago for my first facial. I was a little red afterwards but went right back to normal the next day. I think with your first one, better to be safe than sorry - should probably move it up at least a week.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to see if I might be able to bump it up to this weekend instead.

Jules - I am going to Contempo Cuts on Holme Circle in NE Philly. Been going there for big events since high school. Most of my family goes and we love it there.

Earlier is probably better, but I want to get one as well. I've had a few facials before and only got reddish skin for a few days. It doesn't last long. Also, getting a facial is really relaxing, I think it will relieve some stress before the wedding.

Most have some type of reaction to their first facial - especially if it's a facial in a salon that doesn't use natural products.

Typically one facial does not do a whole lot for your skin. I would recommend 2-3 at least and starting way before the wedding in case of possible reactions

Is there a reason you are doing a facial?

Just something I've never done before and the salon offered me a really good deal for having my wedding party's hair done there.

I just had one last week with no reactions. I will probably get 2 more. One a few weeks from now and one closer to the wedding.

Definitely don't do anything out of the ordinary that isn't part of your regular beauty routine so close to the wedding! I would cancel or have earlier, or maybe get a massage instead as a special treat!

Any kind of facial care routine should be started months before the wedding. I recommend finding the best facialist you can afford and going every month. If you know your esthetician and trust her then a nice gentle moisturising facial couple of days before the event will do wonders to your skin. Again I can never stress enough how important it is to find someone who has a great reputation.

I think its fine as long as you do the same facial as a trial before to see how your skin reacts My MOH did one a week before her wedding and she was breaking out so bad her makeup artist yelled at her Smiley sad

Honestly, I would say that it depends on whether you have done this before. If you have never done a facial before or you are using a spa that you have never been to before, I would highly recommend planning a little ahead of time. If you have done this before or you trust the spa that you are with I would personally not be hesitant about trying a facial at that time.

I just had a facial last weekend and it took about a week before the redness on my face started to go away and this was not my first one. This could be because I have sensitive skin but I would do it at least 2 weeks or more before your wedding date.

If you get them regularly from the same person...good idea! If it's your first...bad idea!
