Facebook Livestream — Copyrighted Music?

Rizza, on September 24, 2020 at 12:12 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 3

Hello! Getting married on Monday!! Smiley smile We're going to be live-streaming our ceremony for our friends and family that can't make it due to COVID. Does anyone know if there are any issues when it comes to playing copyrighted music? I know that there is a risk of the portion of that video getting muted AFTER it's posted, but will it get blocked during?

Thanks in advanced! Smiley smile

I’m not sure, maybe contact Facebook to see if there’s anything specific that you have to do

It depends on the site that you live-stream from. My fiancé teaches Computers and he said that it is a risk that you would be taking and that it depends on the artist and what their agreement is for that streaming service. He said YouTube has algorithms that detect music and can shut the video down due to copy righted music during a live feed or after it has been posted.

The only music you can be sure won’t be shut down is if the writer/artist of the song has been dead for more than 72 years. FH said that is how the law is written.
We are having one song played that we were worried about copyright so it is being played before we turn our live stream on. The rest of our songs are church hymns or the Canon in D by Pachelbel (who has been dead for over 72years). I just wasn’t going to risk having my live feed shut down due to a song.
    I hope this helps.

Hi Rizza! To be extra careful you could have someone mute the livestream while the copyrighted music is playing, or choose a royalty-free song substitute!

Here's another post where I saw brides discussing a similar subject: Zoom Wedding Music, and this recent discussion about streaming might be helpful as well: To Stream or Not to Stream...
