Fabric for making overlays/runners

Kristen, on January 1, 2011 at 9:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Where is the best place to buy fabric? I want to make my own overlays/runners for the tables. I'm looking for something inexpensive. I haven't priced Michael's or Joann's yet. Anyone know who has the best prices. What about Walmart or online sites I can buy from. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Walmart no longer sells fabric in most stores.

Question for you: Why are you so set on making the runners and overlays yourself? My venue rents the runners out for $5, so I price shopped a little to see if getting them somewhere else would be cheaper - it wasn't really. Plus then I'd have to deal with having 10 runners post-wedding.

If you know what kind of fabric you want to use, and are willing to put in the time / effort to make them, I'd say Google is your friend. I've ordered fabric online before, sorry I can't remember specific sites right now. I'd also compare shop at Hobby Lobby, etc., especially during fabric sales.

I still suggest looking at either renting or purchasing premade, just my 2 cents Smiley smile

What type of material are you looking for? The material is what's going to determine your cost.

I thought about buying fabric and putting my sewing machine to use...then I found this website that sold the runners I wanted cheaper than it would have cost me to buy the material. I paid $3.90 a runner Check out www.efavormart.com They have a variety of runners and the price deceases with quanity. Their material quality is excellent-far better than I thought! Maybe even consider renting them as well!? (oh btw, ignore the two diff color cloths in my pic, Im trying to decide which table cloth to use.)

Ok I did purchase the exact same damask design as Chris&Jennifer from ebay a satin material for my overlays. Problem is the seamtress was charging way too much. So I found a very reasonable price at the tableclothfactory online, so I will just buy them. But now Im stuck with 20yards of fabric. Ebay definitely has great deal though

A fabric store, here in Portland, has anything anyone could want. LOL! They are online as well.

Same table runners you showed in your photo: $4.29 each. I don't think you can buy fabric for less than that.

Oops! It wasn't YOUR photo! Sorry. Also, I see that Jennifer already gave you efavormart.com's website. Happy shopping!
