Eyelash Extensions?!

mmbrake28, on March 30, 2017 at 3:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

How many of you have tried eyelash extensions? - Either leading up to your wedding or just for everyday wear.

I've been contemplating the idea for a few months and keep going back and forth.

My eyelashes are pretty short and sparse. If I curl them and do like 3 coats of mascara I can get them to look decent, but most of the time they look pretty limp and bleh.

Everyone I see on social media (or in real life) who has gotten eyelash extensions looks INCREDIBLE, but I just feel like the maintenance will be such a bitch. Not to mention how expensive it will be to upkeep. In my area, to go to a reputable salon, it costs $150 for the initial application PLUS $100 for fill-ins every 4 weeks. Seems crazy to me, but idk.

Tbh, I just SUCK at applying falsies. I've watched every YouTube tutorial in the book and still cannot get them to last more than 2 hrs before it's dangling off and I look like a hot mess.

Thoughts? Experiences? Am I ridiculous?

I got them a few times and loved them but I felt like they weighed my eyelids down sooo much it gave me a headache. I think I paid the same and it felt like a lot to me so I stopped. I may get them for our wedding but I'm not sure yet.

@browneyedgirl - Oooh, I never thought of them being heavy....what a good point. I was considering giving them a try this summer to see if I like them or not and then possible getting them done for my wedding. Tbh, I'm more scared that I WILL like them, lol.

I started getting eyelash extensions about 2 months ago and LOVE them. I will have them for the wedding. I hate paying for them...they are $70 every 3 weeks...but i love them. I was really hoping that when i was referred to this lady i would hate the eyelashes so i didnt have to add yet another monthly expense...lol but boy was i WRONG! I just told my fh last night that i wonder if i will keep getting them done even after the wedding.

I only wear them when I am glammed. i only use mink ones because they are lighter (don't feel like I'm fighting sleep) and they can be taken off cleaned and re-worn. But again I only wear them for shoots, special occasions and like my wedding day lol

The upkeep is definitely a bitch. Most places recommend more often than 4 weeks, as well. While the adhesive may last 4 weeks, there's a point (depending on how fast your hair grows) they start to look a little odd since they'll be sprouting out of the middle of your natural lashes.

You also have to be careful with rubbing your eyes, how rough you apply your upper eyeliner (if you wear that), scrubbing your face while washing, and sweating. If you're rough on your eyes, it can pull out the extensions and your natural lashes.

Also, I have heard HORROR stories of people who go to like random nail salons or other cheap places to get them done. So definitely do your research and go somewhere reputable and quality!

All this being said, I think they look lovely on every person I've ever seen have them.

I had the individuals once and they were beautiful. The only problem is that they felt so foreign, and were so much fuller and longer than my actual lashes, that it freaked me out because I could see them above my eye. I ended up rubbing them out within just a few days. Such a shame for the time it takes to install them. Now, I just go with strip lashes when I feel the need.

@Amanda - What glue do you use to get them to last all day? Mine fall off after like 2 hrs but maybe I'm just applying them wrong?

@HisQueen - Loving them is exactly what I'm worried about, lol! Adding a $100 monthly expense on EYELASHES seems absolutely crazy to see but.....they look so good lol.

@Christina - Great points! I've heard horror stories as well....yuck. But the salon in my area that I would most likely go to - if I got them done - has 5/5 stars on Yelp and Facebook, so I trust them. Plus I get my hair done there and I watch the lady apply them. Another thing is they take SO long to apply! Like almost 2 hours! Idk if I could just lay there for that long while someone glues things to my eyelid, lol.

The outcome is beautiful, just not sure if the price and maintenance are worth it.

I hated how they felt on my eyes. I actually ended up removing them after 3 days, even though I had just paid $100 for them... I just tint my eyelashes now and I'll wear fake lash strips for the wedding.

Love mine! I don't feel like the upkeep is terrible (pat dry lightly with a tissue and comb them out), they aren't heavy and last for 4 weeks or longer. They are synthetic mink (that's a thing I guess). It is less for my fills, only $40 a session. Shop around for different salons, all the places around me are now offering them.

Have you ever tried individual falsies? or the small groups applicator tool from Flirt? that little guy is a lifesaver for people who aren't great at putting on full sets of false lashes.

I'm pro lash extensions! My first time was almost 2 years ago and I don't keep them all the time but they'll last for 3-4 weeks so I don't have to worry about getting them done too early. Mine have never felt heavy and I like that you can choose the length. Yes it takes a while but I've become friends with the lady who does mine so we just talk and it's nice to be away from the phone! I'd highly recommend them.

They are a very high maintenance way to make you low maintenance. You barely have to put on any makeup and you are ready to go for the day which I LOVED! I also liked having long eyelashes for all of my wedding weekend events instead of just having false eyelashes applied on the wedding day. Like you, I cannot put on falsies to save my life.

On the downside, the application time sucks. Laying still while consciously keeping your eyes closed for almost 2 hours is difficult - I got the major antsy pants. The cost is extreme and you will need a fill about every 2-3 weeks. I am a stomach sleeper and they would be tangled every morning which is uncomfortable. You have to be aware of what products you are using because anything with oil breaks down the glue. When you do lose lashes it almost creates a bald spot that is really obvious because the rest of your lashes are so long. For me the cons outweighed the pros so I had them removed. DO NOT try to remove them yourself or you really will end up without any eyelashes. They were fun for the wedding but I could never have them regularly.

I was blessed with "good eyelashes" but I'm pro lash extensions! BUT I would caution that the first time or two they will make you feel like your eyes are weighed down. Definitely practice wearing them before the wedding day to avoid awkward facial expressions in your wedding pics. Lol. Maybe even try the fake lashes a month before? That way you're paying the initial $150 and then just refilling them once for $100?

I agree with Amber. Definitely get them applied a few weeks before the wedding. I work with a girl that has an allergic reaction to the glue and each time she gets a fill her eyelids get puffy for a couple of days.

Sorry. Left for work. I used Duo brush on glue. Give it a minute to get tacky and then apply. I also used lashes by Kiss. Much softer and flexible band.

I used to get them all the time for a 3 year period. I no longer do because of the maintenance and upkeep time and costs. I had to get mine filled about every 2 weeks because I had a bad habit of plucking. I now use Latisse and I'm very happy with it! My lashes are strong and long.
