Extravagant wedding vs saving up

My fiancé and I are so torn right now. We booked a beautiful venue, but now we’re not sure what to do anymore. We have so much credit card debt, and want to buy a house sooner rather than later. We would both be so happy having a church wedding and something small with just our immediate families, but we know our parents want to celebrate with a big party. I jus started a new career and know that if we buckled down, we could have a nice small wedding while getting our dream house as well. I think I just need some advice on what to do, I would rather have our dream house than spend so much money that we don’t have on one night, but I don’t want to regret it either!! We weren’t planning on getting married until June next year, and with covid too I would hate for something to be rescheduled. Side note: neither of our parents are contributing to the wedding financially

From someone who is nearly two years out from our wedding, go for the small one. We spent $5,900 on ours and I now wish it had been even smaller - especially the number of guests (90). I've learned that daily life with my wife is the treasure, not some "special one-time day." Also, use the money toward the house instead and paying down credit card debt. That is your life and an investment. Getting the credit card debt off your shoulders will be a huge relief and you will be just as married and have as fun a time. We bought our house at the same we got married and I'm glad we put the money on the house.

Thank you guys so much!!!! All of your comments definitely helped us see that our perspective definitely makes sense. We are going to look for a small venue. We have a couple of places in mind that I’m calling today to schedule a tour. We are going to lose our deposit from our original venue, but we are okay with that knowing how much we’re going to save in the long run. We are so excited!!
