Extra Tables @ Reception

Tasha-n-Adam, on February 5, 2014 at 2:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Is anyone having extra seating or tables at the reception for people who you didn't expect to come?

We don't have a formal seating chart beyond the wedding party so ppl can come and go. We have highboy cocktail tables and a bar lounge area with a couch and seats for alternative or additional seating. We have enough dining chairs and tables for everyone who rsvp'ed so the extras will have to just hang out

I had heard it is always a good idea to prepare for the "just in case" people who just show up. Annoying as that would be.

^ that. Don't have the decency to make a check mark on my RSVP, put it in a PRE STAMPED envelope and in your mailbox? THEN THERE AINT A SEAT FOR YOU!

*breathing* I at least plan on contacting those who haven't replied by the due date to let them know I haven't received them and they will have to let me know by X date, otherwise I will have to mark them as declined.....

I think its RUDE when people don't RSVP however my moms wedding was a mess because she didn't leave any tables open...I will personally have open seats. not a full open table cuz itll be empty and random but I left 2 seats open here & there for those extras

or even for those who couldn't make it last min but then decided to come

No need. We had about 5 people that didn't show up- one hurt his back, another sprained her ankle, and I'm not sure about the others so I already lost out on the cost for their place and meal so I would been angry if I had paid for a whole extra table. Like Out the Window said- if you don't RSVP (we called many people that didn't to make sure) you don't have a seat! (Literally- you don't have a seat because we had to rent chairs)!

No but our guest list is pretty small, and they're pretty much all of them are from out of town. So I'm hoping they'll all RSVP. We're doing assigned tables, and while I won't have an entire extra table, there will be extra seat or 2.

Thanks guys. This was very helpful. I actually have about 6-8 extra seats available as is (I would pull chairs in if more showed up, but they won't actually be sitting empty at the tables). So it sounds like I should be covered!

Follow up with anyone who doesn't RSVP.

I don't like the way empty seats look, so I don't want to have any. Not to mention, rentals alone are $18 pp-- so, a table for 8 would be about $150.

I will call all those who did not RSVP to make sure they are a decline but if they do not answer there phone or return a message I have no choice but to count them as no. My venue requires a list of guests. If your not on the list, no soup for you.....

I'd check with people a few times to make sure they know they haven't RSVPed yet... then it's their own fault if they show up!
