Explicit Music

Samantha, on May 9, 2013 at 4:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

My DJ just called me and told me the first dance song we chose only comes in the "explicit" version. They say "sh*t" three times. It's not super noticeable. Our wedding is adults only with the exception of my brother (he's 8) and he's definitely heard that word before.

The only problem is my parents are super conservative and will probably get pissed if they notice it. Should I change the song or do you think it's okay to play it anyway? I'm leaning towards playing it anyway but thought I should get some opinions.

Shouldn't your DJ be able to mute it out or something? What's the song?

I downloaded the clean version from youtube, but the quality isn't very good. I guess I could compromise with that. Even iTunes doesn't have the clean version for purchase. They only have the ringtone. The song is "For the first time" by The Script.

Is there not a radio version. I don't think people would notice really.

I wouldn't notice. It's not like it full of horrible language.

There is a radio version but I can't find it to download and apparently neither can my DJ. They just say "sit" on the radio instead, so it's really not that big of a difference.

The version I have says "SIT" instead of shit. I listened twice just to be sure. I can email it to you if you want.

I just checked the lyrics and I couldn't find any S* words on it:

    http://www.directlyrics.com/the-script-for-the-first-time-lyrics.html

I listened to it while I went over every single word... Safe for radio play

At least with my music subscription service.

Maybe your DJ should invest in a professional DJ pool and not put you in this position?

I am sure there is an edited version. But people will be so distracted during the wedding i doubt they will even notice.

Play it anyway. Your parent's are adults...even if they are super conservative, it's not like they've never heard it before and it's your wedding!

I would play it anyway. It's not a big, there are no kids except one. You like it why not stick with what you like.

Your DJ should be able to go in and bleep/disguise the offending words. Very simple in the digital age. Should take him or her 5 minutes. If he/she can't or won't, heed the red flag and look for another DJ...

I am a big believer in playing what speaks to you. It is your wedding- envision it and make it happen! Good luck and congrats!

Mmm yea the album says 'shit talking up all night' and the radio one(this was definitely a hit song), changes it to sit. Your DJ should be able to find that easily

I think it's a little late for her to look for another DJ...the wedding is tomorrow!

Did you figure it out Samantha?
