Event day coordinator

Valerie, on August 2, 2020 at 5:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
I have been doing all the planning on my own for my wedding, all vendors booked and ready to go. I have been asked by vendors if there is a point person to work with on the day.
My question is about event day coordinators and are they worth the expense for one day?

I will double check your contract with your venue. My venue required me to have a professional day of coordinator.

I personally think they are if you’ve the budget for them

Literally the best money that we spent on our wedding. Couldn't have done it without her.

Well, prior to my venue contract, I never knew anyone who had a professional doc.
I think maybe one wedding I attended had a wedding planner but everyone else just seemed to do fine. It’s all a matter of how much you want to deal with the day of on top of all the actual bridal things.
I’m not getting to work with my doc until the month of the wedding, so I’ll get more clarification then as far as what she’s actually going to do versus what I have to do to have things ready.

DOCs are worth their weight in gold. A good one will handle everything day of (and often times will come on board a few weeks to a month out to make sure they know how you want things) and will not bother you with any minor issues. I did all the planning and hiring of my vendors, too, but having my DOC has been great. When we had to postpone 3 weeks out from the wedding, she took care of getting a hold of our vendors and coordinating our new date with all of them. I know she’ll make my life 1000 times easier on the actual day, once we get there.

A good wedding coordinator is worth more to your wedding than their fee.

Our venue offers one to begin with, but I asked my sister in law to be my coordinator too so that she was the point of contact the day of. I don't expect her to do all the work of a paid coordinator as the venue coordinator will handle most things but I just want her to make sure everything looks the way I want/asked for before the wedding starts.

I hired everyone myself but I DO have a day of coordinator she is the final puzzle piece.. she will make sure everything is right and beautiful and make sure everyone is where they should be when they should be to include vendors and guests. She will make sure the venue does their part too!! I would suggest it the last thing you need are questions on your wedding day. Like where you want this or that as your getting ready!

I didn’t initially plan to hire a coordinator because they are like $1200+ in our area and our total budget was $5k, but the reception venue/catering package came with a coordinator and she has already been SO helpful. When our ceremony spot (plans a, b, and c) got closed due to Covid she recommended a little known spot that’s FREE! She is also going to decorate for us and do tear down after the event, we just have to drop off the miscellaneous things we have and she’ll take care of everything else. Having initially planned to pretty much do everything ourselves, I feel relieved to have a few things taken off my plate.
On the day, my cousin will be the primary contact so that no one is calling me with questions. Between her and the venue coordinator, I’m hoping to just be able to relax and enjoy the day without worrying about the little things (and maybe big things) that will inevitably come up.

Haven't had our wedding yet but our caterer comes with a DOC and when I met her in person I was soooo relieved. She's the point person for the entire day and isn't afraid to put up an entire uhaul of decor herself that very afternoon (because yes someone did that to her!) She knows our venue inside and out (the caterer does 80-90% of the wedding for our venue) and was so helpful. It's true that you can't have a thousand things for them to do a long ways out, but I know she'll have my back leading up to everything. I'm just so relieved that on the day she'll handle everything that could go wrong hopefully before I even know it. 😊

Our venue had one - she was our point person the whole time - and I can't imagine how we could have done it without her.

A good DOC will not only make the day run smoothly, you will not even notice they are there.

But the last thing YOU want, as the couple, is to have people bugging you every ten seconds about who/what/when/where/why/how.

    Yes x1000!!!!
You want to be able to enjoy your day, not spend it running around making everything is set up correctly, talking to every vendor, handling any little issues, etc. The help with setup and tear down alone is huge. It’s hard to be in two places at once. You also don’t want to be bothered with an issue or question while getting your makeup done. On your wedding day, you should be able to focus on getting married and not all of the little details. Let someone else handle all of the behind the scenes stuff. With a good DOC, you’ll never know about any problems and guests will never even know she or he was there!

Yes, a DOC is absolutely worth the expense! They keep the stress off of you and everyone in your wedding party/family. I was so glad we had a DOC and can't imagine what our day would have been like without one.

If you have the money to hire one then do it. They are very very helpful and take a lot of the weight the day of off your shoulders, but if you don’t have the extra money in your budget then I wouldn't worry about it.
