Evening Wedding & Ceremony

lvnlife, on March 4, 2016 at 7:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

Hello ladies,

For those of you that are having an evening wedding, what are your timeframes for the ceremony & reception?

Are you doing first blush or waiting until after the ceremony to take photos? We will more than likely have an evening wedding, but I'm trying to decide if I want to do first blush. I've always envisioned my FH seeing me for the first time as I walk down the aisle. The only issue is, there will be no sunlight after the ceremony for our photos. We may have to do them all indoors. (Granted the venue is very nice). Just wanted to see if there were other ideas or if anyone else is planning an evening wedding. Thx!

And I am planning to do pictures during cocktail hour but I also do not have a bridal party and we are not doing very many formal posed shots with family. We're planning evening as well. Ceremony either 430 or 5.

Our ceremony will be starting at 4:30 and our reception will last until 9PM. We aren't doing a first look because I don't want him to see me before the wedding, but like mandybeth, we will be taking pics during cocktail hour.

I'm also assuming you mean first look. We're doing one to make the timeline smoother. A couple of other ways to handle not having a first look include doing all the family/separate bridal party pics beforehand or doing a couples shoot the day after to take advantage of the daylight.

Or ceremony is starting at 630, cocktail hour 7-8 and reception 8-12. We are doing a first look and doing as many pictures as possible before the ceremony so that we can enjoy our cocktail hour with our guests. Ours is a Friday night so we can get to the venue any time we want to start taking pictures.

We are doing a first look and all formal pictures will be taken before the ceremony. Ceremony is at 5:30, reception immediately following. It will last until 10. I hate going to weddings where the guests have to wait around while pictures are taken, so I knew I definitely didn't want to do that.

Are you open to having your ceremony a bit earlier so you'll have about 1-1.5 hours before sunset afterwards for outdoor photos?

ETA: That's if you don't want to do a first look but want to do pictures outdoors while the sun is still out.

We are doing a first look. Our ceremony starts at 6 so first look will be between 4-4:30. We have thought about taking a few outdoor pics immediately after the ceremony, because sunset in the summer won't be til around 8 pm, so I think we have plenty of time. Depending on your start time and time of year you're getting married, you can make it work.

    Reception will be 6:30-11 pm.

We're having the wedding start at 5. We're doing our pictures before hand. I wanted him to wait to see me until the ceremony but taking pictures before is the only thing he really had an opinion on. Our ceremony and reception are in the same place so I think it'd be better to get it all done beforehand because then we don't have to rush...

@E&M Our ceremony will most likely be at 7pm and the sunsets at 630pm. I will have to decide between either the first blush/look so that we can have daylight photos or not do first blush and have evening photos....decisions, decisions Smiley smile lol

Arrive at venue 400. First look 430. Pictures until 600. Ceremony at 630. Cocktail time immediately following while we got a few more pictures. Dinner at 730. Cake cutting and bouquet toss about 830. Reception was over at 1100. Hope this helps!

@lvnlife: That is a tough choice to make. It does come down to which is more important to you - having your FH see you for the first time as you walk down the aisle vs. outdoor pictures while the sun is still out. Good luck!! Smiley smile

First look? Haha. My ceremony starts at 5 with cocktail hour starting at 6:30. We're doing a first look at 3. We're only doing full bridal party pictures and family pictures between the ceremony and reception.

OP, have you thought about asking your photographer if they have any examples of their evening work? Natural light is definitely preferred, but if you have a talented/artistic photographer you could end up having really gorgeous photos at night, as well.
