Escort/ Place Cards

Sarah, on September 4, 2019 at 9:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
When you first walk into my reception, I will have a big table with cards directing guests to their tables (not seats), so I think that would be escort cards? My wedding will have 180 people.

Would I do “Mary Smith” and then “John Smith” on separate cards or do “Mr. and Mrs John Smith” on one card?

What about unmarried couples? Would they get the same card or different cards?
Families with kids?

Please help!

Yes, escort cards "escort" people to their seats while seating cards assign the exact chair.

Per etiquette, married couples go on the same card. Unmarried couples should go on separate cards. If kids are seated with their parents, you can just label it "the Smith family" or something. If the child is sitting somewhere else, then they should have their own card.

Yes that is escort cards. We gave everyone separate cards as it had to indicate their meal choice.

    Hi there Sarah!

Yes these are escort cards Smiley smile

You'll need one for every guest, or at least every family/couple, and you can base the wording on how you addressed your invites. It’s totally your personal preference!

If you’re only providing one escort card per family or couple, it’s recommend you have a place card for each person once they arrive to the assigned table as you can include their food selection on it for the catering staff and eliminate any confusion about whether or not families and couples are seated together.

We're doing escort cards that people will carry to their table and use as a place card to hold their seat, so for us, combining couples doesn't make sense.

We did one for every person so that they could adequately mark their spots. It would be hard for other guests to know there might already be a party of 5 or something there if there's only one escort card available for those 5 people!
