Escort Board vs. Place Cards

I am really torn between doing an escort board or place cards. Any opinions, or does anyone have pics of what they are doing. Any problems with either? I'm worried about the place cards falling over, or spending an arm and a leg to get individual holders on top of the expense to make the cards.

For the escort board I'm worried it will possibly be confusing to my guests. I have never been to a wedding with one before so I don't know if this works or not.

@M.M. - I was worried about that too! Thank goodness we didn't have to make any last-minute changes... I don't know what we would have done.

@Cynthia - I ordered it on Etsy, and the words are paint. If you live somewhere that access to an old window is cheap - then I can tell you how to get the words on. I made a few accompanying pieces (like 'bride' and 'groom' signs for our table, below) by printing the words on paper, taping the paper behind the glass, and "tracing" with a paint pen.

@Mrs.Fornasty - those are really pretty

Thanks for the thoughts on our Escort cards! I love the design, my only complaint is getting them to feed through the printer. They are to small that i have to attach them to a larger piece of paper! its a PITA!

RWC those are absolutely beautiful. Smiley smile

I'll probably just pick up escort cards at Michaels and trace them with the same fake calligraphy technique I used for my envelopes.

A benefit of escort cards is that you can easily indicate someone who has a special meal or allergy, or who ordered which entree if you're serving dinner that way.

Maybe I'm just extra forgetful- but if it was on a board I may forget what table I'm at on the way there! with cards i can carry it with me so I don't forget.

But i am one of those people that frequently walks into rooms and forgets why i came in.

LOL@Shellie, I'm the same way. I would have to go sit right down in order not to forget smh

We're doing favor boxes that double as escort cards. They're shaped like triangles and are about 3 inches long. You can write the guest's name and table # on one side, and there is a plastic "window" on the other side to see what's inside (we're using kisses). They are something like $5/50 on oriental trading.

To address your one concern, maybe you can order blank business cards (or even with a nice design) and just write/print your guests' names on them. Vista Print usually has them for free on their website (you just pay for shipping). Also, efavormart or oriental trading have cheaper holders, esp if you buy in bulk. And you can probably have the cards spaced out enough where they won't get knocked over when people are grabbing for them.
