I love hearing how people were proposed to, so tell me your engagement story!

A little backstory: I’m from California but currently living with my FW in Missouri because she was stationed here. Anyways, this past Christmas we went to California so we could spend the holidays with my family. Christmas morning we were all finishing opening gifts together, when my FW gave me my present from her. When I opened it, there was a little book she made me called “Everything’s Better with You”. It was so sweet she put examples of things she loves about our relationship on each page, then when I got to the last page it said “Will you marry me?” Then she got on one knee and popped the question in front of my whole family! I cried like a baby and obviously said yes!

That is so sweet and a great idea.
I also was proposed to on Christmas. Fh was going to propose at the diner were we met, (which I would have loved) but his friends talked him out of it. So on Christmas morning it was just the two of us and our dogs. We had just finished unwrapping our gifts from each other and I turned around to hang the stockings back up. When I turned back around and he was getting down on one knee. He said,” since I couldn’t come up with a better idea, there’s no better time than right now to ask you to be my wife.”

We met because I wrote a poetry book about the love that connects everybody, intentionally leaving out romantic love. So she proposed first at a beach in Oregon (a special place to me) and I created a Love Book for her (like your fiance did) and snuck it in my luggage a few weeks later when we went to Hawaii and gave it to her on a beach there. I hope she liked it. Our wedding is Hawaiian themed.

    That is very sweet!
I proposed to my husband, I asked him while he was at work. We told our mothers a few days later, and then our siblings at a BBQ at my MILs house. I didn't get a ring until a few months later when my husband surprised me with a gondola ride on my birthday.

My FH ordered my ring and picked it up about a week before my birthday. I work 2nd shift and he works 1st so he's normally in bed by the time I get home from work, but the day he picked up the ring the Eagles were playing so he was still up watching the game by the time I got home. He said goodnight once the game was over and went into bed. 10 minutes later he comes out of the room and says he can't sleep. I had just sat down to watch tv when he calls me into the kitchen. I said sarcastically, "I like it better when you're asleep when I get home." I go out into the kitchen and there he was on his knee. He said he was going to wait until my birthday but he was too excited. Which is also perfect for us because he can't surprise me at all. It was either I was totally surprised and it wasn't romantic or it was romantic and I would have figured it out.

The way we actually got engaged was not why my FW had originally planned but it was perfect for us. She originally planned to do it on a vacation we were taking but a couple months before we had a perfect date night at home. We had watched movies and decorated for Christmas together all day and then made dinner together. After dinner she was acting kinda weird and then started talking about how much she loved me and how she was so excited for our life together and that we ended up where we have and then she got down on her knee and asked me. By the time she got down on one knee I just blurted out “yes” before she even got to actually ask lol. It was perfect and sweet and private.

I actually couldn’t have asked for a better way to be proposed to. First off my now fiancé had this ring since June (since i told him it was the one) but had to find the perfect way to ask me, we didn’t get engaged until October. Anyways, a couple days before he asked me he mentioned us going out to a fancy dinner for my birthday (it was two days before my birthday), so i didn’t think anything of it. He told me to go out and find a nice outfit and put it on his card. (Of course i did, lol) So when the day came i had just got off work and went home to get cleaned up, and he was supposed to come pick me up at 5:30. Well he called me at 5 (when i got off work) and said he was still at school (college), 45 mins away, and he would hurry. I was kinda mad, i called my mom to vent, of course she already knew what was about to happen but couldn’t tell me. So finally he shows up, and I’m still annoyed, feel so bad now, and told me that before we leave i need to put on a blindfold, so i did. He’s done sweet stuff like this before so i honestly didn’t think anything of it. So we start driving and talking (he was very quiet but i didn’t notice) and then we finally get to this spot. He tells me not to take the blindfold off and he was going to come get me out of the car, and then carried me down a hill and sets me down. My heart was beating so hard because i had a feeling then.... finally he told me to take the blindfold off and turn around. It was the very spot he asked me to be his girlfriend at 5 years ago with him on his knee under this lit up arch way he created with the words “marry me”. It was magical, and I was so shocked how much work he put into it. He even had someone take pictures of us, which i had no clue. By the way, sorry this is so long. /:

Wow that is so cute. I live in Chicago so my FH took me down town which is my favorite place and took me to a nice restaurant (cheesecake factory) and then he took me on a horse and buggy ride and then to end the night we went to Navy Pier and we were on the ferris wheel right before the fireworks started and he waited until we got on the top to get down on one knee and he asked me to marry him

My fiancé and I have been together for four years. January 2017 he gave me a promise ring, so I knew that sometime in the future it was going to happen. It was October 21st, and he originally wanted to take me to a nice restaurant and propose where we went on our first date. Well an unexpected expense came up and he told me that our date would have to be postponed.

Since I had just gotten paid, I told him not to worry about it because we work as a team, and I understand how hard he works and unexpected expenses happen, and that I wanted to pay for that date. So he realized that would be when I least expect it.

During the date, our waitress happened to ask if we had any special plans after dinner like going to the beach, and my fiancé said yes. Well that was news to me because we definitely were not dressed to go to the beach, and we didn't actually talk about doing that, so I realized something was up. He kept shaking during dinner and I asked if he was ok, and he said that he was "just cold" and he kept going to the bathroom.

On on the ride over to the beach we listened to love songs and beach songs like "Wouldn't it Be Nice" by The Beach Boys and "Better Together" by Jack Johnson.

We we started walking along the beach, and he started to talk about how I'm his best friend, and how we balance each other out, and work as a team. He talked about how he loves me so much and imagines our future together. Then I realized it was about to happen, but for a few moments we walked in silence just enjoying each others company. I asked if we could pause and look at the ocean, and so we did. After holding me for a while, he stepped back and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I immediately started bawling like nobody's business and kept saying yes. He's letting me pick out a ring, and we are getting married August 4th 2018 😊

I love everyone's engagement stories! Mine is pretty simple, we met when we were 18, just friends. Fast forward 20 years to a Facebook friend request. Not realizing I am dating the guy who "NEVER" wants to get married, took some soul searching but OK, I can deal with that. 4 years later he proposes - completely floored had no idea. He took me out for dinner to the first place we went when we reconnected, not technically a date, but sort of. Then we went to our favorite winery, he proposed. He told NO ONE he was doing it, everyone was shocked! We are getting married this September and honestly I didn't think our relationship could get any better, but since the engagement it's gone to new heights.

That is so sweet!! The book is adorable too! I had to go out of state for work for 2 and a half days back in August. That was the longest we’d been apart, and since he was on nights and I had to be on a day schedule we didn’t get to talk at all, only sent videos and messages before bed and Work. I guess he realized he couldn’t live without me (and everyone said he was very bummed while I was gone). He actually asked my parents and ordered the ring while I was gone. So about a week after I came back he took me to the park and played a song on his phone and asked me to marry him. It was very sweet and I loved it. Now we’re gettinf married May 12!

My fiance and I are both getting our masters I go to school mon-fri and work weekends. So we hadn't had a vacation in a year. This january I had a week before classes began again and he recommended a long weekend away in the carolinas. Snowboarding, sledding, fires the whole shebang. We had been biv travelers before school but never went to snow. Perfect vacation.
We have a favorite show psych, they have a running gag of finding a pineapple every episode, we hadnt finished the series because i hate finishing good shows. During the vacation he finds a pineapple ornamante from the valley we were staying in. We finished our show that night in the hotel room. While getting ready for dinner he hid it in the room. When i found it he started saying the sweetest things and got down on one knee. He was a nervous wreck and I was crying so much i couldnt say yes all i could do was hold him. It took a good three minutrs bwfore he finally got a yes out of me!

This is so sweet! I have a very similar story. My FW asked me on Christmas Eve of 2016, with a sweet little book she made as well. When I got to this page I laughed because I thought it was a joke! But I looked up and there she was, trembling with a ring in her hand. I cried for hours!

Aww I love the book idea!

After dating for 11 months we went on a trip to Breckenridge to go skiing. DH wanted to go hike around this trail he had heard about "somewhere"... so we go up there and it's snowing and so beautiful. There's a lady walking around taking pictures of the trees and stuff so I tell DH I want to give her my cell phone to take our picture since it's so pretty there. He kept saying no, just leave her alone, come over here... lol so I finally listened and walked over by him without asking her. Then couple seconds later he gets down in the snow and proposes. I was totally shocked!! Looking back he was acting kind of weird that morning and stuff but he hates flying so I didn't think anything of it. He had also met with both my parents before we left for the trip to tell them his plans.

Turns out the lady taking pictures was there waiting for us. He had contacted a local photographer who told him where to take me hiking and so she captured the moment!

My FH randomly one day decided to buy a groupon trip to Italy. This was in March of 2017 and the trip wasn’t until October of 2017. But I new immediately why he booked it (the proposal). While we were on our trip I kept thinking that it could be any moment. We went to Venice first, nothing. Then while in Florence we discovered our hotel had a rooftop lounge (pictured). On the night he proposed he had to get me off the rooftop to set everything up so he asked if I wanted to get us snacks from our room, I said no. He asked again five minutes later, my answer was still no. Then a little while later he asked me to grab his portable charger from our room. It hit me then that this was it so I went down to the room and did a nervous dance and paced for a couple of minutes. I went back up to the rooftop and he was down on one knee (the picture is a screen cap from his phone as he recorded the whole thing).

Well I wish I had a good story, but it was a bit of a nightmare. I wont go into details but I know about it and after throwing a little fit as I am a drama queen lol he popped the question Christmas eve in front of my dad, step mom and step family with my dog by his side. However my mom ruined it once she found out (he did not ask my parents for permission like I told him he needed to) anyways I didnt want that to be the story I remembered so he reproposed this past July after asking my parents on Oval Beach in Sagatuck just me and him at sunset. It was perfect!!!! It was the very first place we ever took a vacation too and I told him back then that there is where I wanted to be proposed too so I am so glad it happened. And even though I knew this second time around as well and was never surprised, I am super happy

We had been talking about going to explore one of the local parks and for almost 2 weeks he kept bringing it up. I was actually getting annoyed by it. That morning as soon as I woke up he said hurry up and take a shower and get ready, I was like ready for what it's 90 degrees and humid outside I'll shower when we get back. He insisted because maybe we would go to lunch after. So I gave in but was still annoyed by it. We went to the park and walked around for a while then went down a trail in the woods we stopped to sit and talk on a bench and that's when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I don't remember but I supposedly never said yes I just said I love you and kissed him. He had to ask me again. And by the way the pictures we took look awful because we were a sweaty mess. You couldn't even tell that I took all that time to do my hair and makeup. Lol
