Engagement Shoot Giveaway

Misstomrs19, on May 2, 2019 at 11:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
My fiancé and I won a free engagement photo shoot from a photographer on Facebook. She will be providing us with 10 free images! I was wondering how much I should tip her at the engagement shoot for her time and traveling/gas?!

thanks in advance!

Do you know how long the shoot will be or how much travel she'll be doing? I would think $30 or so would be generous.

She didn’t say how long we would have but I believe she will be traveling around 30 miles to the site! I’m not sure though, just basing it off of her page. It seems she prefers to stay in the area we chose!

    I would probably do $30-50.

Lucky! You could always check the website and see what she usually charges, and do a percentage of that. When are you planning to have them taken?

She actually rescheduled for two weeks from now! It will be in Washington DC near a fountain. Still have no idea of what to wear! I was thinking a dress (midi or maxi) with a jean jacket maybe!?

I've heard this sort of thing is super common, winning free shoots and then the prints are really pricey. I would buy the extra prints you really like (especially if it's just her not a company, then you know the money is going to her) and then tip a little less, maybe a 20 unless you spent a ton on prints. It's not customary to tip if they work for themselves, though I usually do anyway. If you buy a buuuunch of prints, you should be good to not tip a whole lot at all though because I'd bet they'll cost a bit. If you spend 30 on prints and tip 15-20 (because of the distance shes going) and consider her for your wedding photographer, just hear out her prices and stuff, I'd say you're good! It's worth it to her if she has landed a few weddings because of the contest, so the best thing you can do is buy some prints, tip a bit and talk her up if she was great!

Sounds pretty! You might be a bit hot in a jean jacket of that day ends up being anything like today in the District, but stylistically that sounds really nice. Do you have a color in mind?
