Engagement ring size... Better too big or too small?

Better to go bigger, I don't wear rings and my fiance did pretty good. He went with the standard size and they had the metal resizer on it. I'm a 5.25 ring size. They told him at the jeweler better to go bigger than too small.

I second talking to her family/friends, and then I would also consider speaking to the jeweler when you pick out a ring. As some have said, the size you want to buy is going to be dependent on the style - some are easier to resize than others, and some rings can't be resized at all (depending on the material).

I'd never heard the shoe size correlation, but....I wear a 7 in shoes, and my ring is a 7.5 (I probably should have gone with the 7, but my fingers swell a lot when it's hot out, so a 7 made me nervous). Might be a good place to start, especially if you pick a ring that's relatively easy to resize.

Definitely go bigger, my ring is about a half size too big but I just wear a ring adjuster that I got from amazon. Depending on how warm or cold it is my fingers fluctuate a lot. I am glad he got a half size bigger as it doesn't feel too small or large. I have room to work with once I add my wedding band!

Better to be a bit too large. If one of the clerks is similar in size have her tell you her ring size....

Thank you everybody. I decided to go with a 7.5 and I will hope for the best. I will even have a ring adjuster on hand, although it looks like even that can be a bit of a guess as I see several different types and sizes of those.

Size 7 is pretty average, but you’re always safer to buy a larger ring and have it sized down, which is way easier and potentially cheaper since you’re not adding material to the band. On amazon I found these rubber coils that you can put on a larger ring to temporarily keep it on your finger. Does she have any rings that she wears that you can use as a size reference?

Is there any other rings at home they wear?Typically rings come in size 6 as a standard. Generally speaking jewerly stores will have to size the ring unless they ordered multiple sizes ahead of time. Be prepared to wait up to 2 weeks in extreme circumstances for the ring to come back. I'd try an 8 to start with. Or 8.5 Shoe size and ring size don't match all the time. Different styles of shoes may change the size you need so...

Your fiance is smart! I am a light sleeper so this would have never worked on me. He stole my rings I wear on a normal basis instead 🤣

Agree with going bigger and resizing!

We order my fh size just right but mine 1 size up since im the one with the stubby fingers lol
