Engagement Ring Replica

Eve, on March 29, 2017 at 11:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

Living in Baltimore City, my partner is concerned about my wearing my engagement ring, as it is a very expensive family heirloom. Last night he even suggested we just keep it in the safety deposit box! Smiley sad

While I don't wear it to work, and we have it insured, I just can't imagine not being able to see it or wear it when I want.

Can you ladies tell me if you have had custom replicas made, and any suggestions on having it done? I absolutely don't want a CZ from Khols, as I'm looking to keep the unique antique aspect of my ring.

Zachary's in Annapolis or Severna Park (on Rt 2) designs custom rings that are beautiful. They are definitely not cheap, but their workmanship is solid.

But why have an expensive ring if you aren't going to wear it?It's one thing to leave it at home while traveling, but to just look at it and keep it locked away seems silly.

My H won't allow me to travel out of the country with mine, he won't bring his either. But I wear it everywhere. It's a sign of their love for you & he designed it for me. Yes it's worth a lot of money but nothing compared to the love it stands for. I don't understand why you cannot wear it.

I could understand not wearing it when traveling or something of the sort. But, I am with PP. I think have a family heirloom is amazing and so special. But, I can't imagine not being able to wear my ring on a regular basis, to work and when I want to. If it's insured, I don't understand why you couldn't wear it more regularly instead of keeping it locked up.

A bit off-topic, but if he's worried about you getting mugged, you two should start training at Krav Maga MD- having a replica ring won't make YOU any safer if someone wants to rob you.

What is the point of having the real ring if you aren't going to wear it? I think that is a silly idea. I understand that it is a heirloom, but I think you should wear it.

I agree with PPs that it's a bit silly to not wear your ring and if someone wants to mug you, they'll just do it regardless of what kind of jewelry you have on.

I also imagine that it would be a bit of an effort and probably not worth it for a mugger to get your ring off your finger than to just snatch a necklace or grab your phone or bag. It just seems really unrealistic and a bit alarmist to keep it locked up from big bad city life.

Seems extremely silly to have such a nice ring if you can't ever wear it. Why have one at all? If FH told me my ring was too expensive to wear out I would've had him return it.

No, I would not get a replica made. If a criminal saw that and thought it was real you'd have the same outcome anyway.... just keep your ring insured and wear it where and when you want to.

I think that's a bit paranoid TBH. Also, if you're going to get mugged I doubt the mugger is going to have a loupe to see if your CZ is real.

If he's that worried, I'd give the ring back. I wouldn't want to be responsible for it for life.

Why even have a ring if he's to paranoid to let you wear it?

I don't understand why he would give it to you if he didn't want you to wear it?

Can you have a safe at home to lock it up when you're not wearing it -- so not involving a trip to the bank to get it out of a safety deposit box when you do want to wear it?

If you find yourself in a situation that makes you uneasy, turn the ring so the stone is toward your palm (out of sight) -- I've done that on a couple of occasions.

Fellow Baltimore City resident! Idk this seems super alarmist to me. I've been wearing my real fairly sizable engagement ring for the last year and half with no issues. I don't any other engaged and or married friends who take theirs off in the city.

I too live in the area and was scared to wear mine. But honestly I don't think anyone is staring at your finger as much as I was when I first got engaged lol. I figured that's what insurance is for!

I mean I work in Philadelphia, I take public transportation, I frequently encounter lovely characters (ever been to Camden?), and I still wear my ring. There's no point of owning it if you can't wear it.

Literally millions of women wear engagement rings outside of their home. I guarantee you that many of them have rings worth a great deal more than yours or mine. It's insured. That's all you can do. Never wearing it defeats the purpose entirely.

I feel like your FHs concern is misplaced. If he was worried about you being mugged, well, that could happen at any point, even with a replica CZ ring...

jewelry is replaceable. People are not.

(also, you say you don't want CZ, but you want a custom second ring that looks just like the first? So you want second super expensive heirloom ring you can't wear?)

I'd rather continue to carry concealed than have to wear a replica ring because of criminals.

Every time I go to Baltimore for a concert or event I refuse to wear my ring so I can see the issue. I got a silicone mold of mine that I wear to places that I don't feel comfortable wearing the real deal.

I'm still not understanding. I work in an unsafe area but have never considered not wearing jewelry to work or when I'm walking down the street. Sure I keep my purse a little tighter against my body, but that's a little easier to snatch than a ring off my finger.
