Engagement ring anxiety

Nicole, on August 10, 2016 at 9:32 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28

When does the feeling of being afraid to use your hand go away after getting engaged !? I am always very careful but sometimes you don't realize how much you use a hand until you act as if you don't have one!! I'm so scared to ruin my ring! I've already scratched it and felt terrible, luckily they were not deep and were easily removed

Some people only wear their ring when they leave the house. I take it off for dishes, cooking, showering, and at work (chef).

What kind of ring do you have? gold is a soft metal, but diamonds are durable. Just be wary when reaching for things in tight spaces, I guess, and you should adjust pretty fast.

ETA: Just saw the pic. You probably have a pretty high setting, which would explain the bumping.

I've been engaged for a month today! It's platinum so I know it has some advantages for scratches! I nanny so I don't wear it during the day, usually in evenings after work if I go out. But I find myself banging it on random things that I never realized happened before getting engaged!

I've only been engaged since April and my ring is already pretty banged up. I wear it at work like a dummy (I'm a veterinary technician) and do all sorts of chores and stuff with it on. I had a discussion about it with work friends and they all told me not to worry because I can always get it buffed or dipped and have it looking like new. I really hope this is the case haha. I don't usually notice it on my hand unless I'm doing something pretty physical and it's hasn't even been 6 months, so I'm sure you'll be feeling a little safer soon Smiley smile

I am actually on my 2nd ring (same ring, just a replacement) since March. So I'm REALLY overly careful. I take it off for everything. I almost never wear it at home. It's rose gold and morganite, which are softer than say silver and diamond. So I don't have good advice because I'm always worried about it.

I've finally calmed down a little, almost 4 months later. But I still stare at it all the time, take it off to cook and bathe, and have it cleaned/inspected at least once a month. Okay, that makes it sound like I'm still crazy, so what do I know?

Just don't let too many chemicals get on it. Take it off when cleaning, doing dishes, cooking etc. And get regular cleaning. If it's a diamond, I wouldn't worry.

I'm almost 6 months in (and honestly cannot believe that-- it still feels like it was just last week!) and have started sticking my left hand into my purse again just about a month ago.

I've been engaged for three months and still look at it every five minutes to make sure none of the diamonds have fallen out. Before I got insurance I panicked every time I hit on something. Now that it's insured I still check to make sure it's there but I don't panic because if I lose it it's covered.

I only take it off for the pool, shower and anything abrasive. But I never want to be without it.

I lost my ring in my purse once (didn't know it where it was) and FREAKED! My dad was smart enough to check my purse for it and after that I was scared to wear it. I went on a trip and left it at home so I wouldn't lose it. I finally got it sized and now I am more comfortable with it! I still check it ever so often!

@karen sounds exactly like my story! Except I first scratched it 2 days after he proposed, stupidly I wore it while climbing a rock wall in Portugal -_- I was so disappointed and honestly so was my fiancé. Luckily the amazing jewelry store I got my ring was able to get the scratches right out and it looked brand new! And then I just scratched it about an hour ago by sitting down on a curb and putting my hand down first ):

I used to work in a jewelry store years ago. For years now Ive worn two sapphire and white gold rings all day, everyday (and wore my old wedding set for 8 years rarely taking it off) so I dont think Ive ever had that "be super careful" and not use my left hand experience . As far as lost diamonds, get insurance or a protection plan with the quickness.... a scratch can be fixed easily, replacing a stone is more costly.

I was like that for about a month. I never take my ring off. I shower ,wash the dishes in it, clean and sleep it in. I pretty much only take it off when I lift weights or swim in the lake

Took me three months. Of paranoia and just getting used to it. I had mine resized three times. It goes away
