Engagement Photo Shoot

Cara, on September 26, 2019 at 9:26 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 6
It’s a week from today. My fiancé are having our photo shoot right after work. Life has been so hectic that I didn’t even realize it was coming up so quick. No clue what to wear. Do we need to coordinate outfits? Or just not clash? Should I be getting my makeup done? I plan on getting makeup done for the wedding. But do I get makeup done for engagement photos? Feeling a little lost.

It's all preference! I'm not a big fan of matchy matchy outfits, but I do think that you should try not to clash. I would aim for fall colors; burgundy, olive, mustard. If you want springy photos since you're having a May wedding, you could probably still get away with it. I know the leaves haven't started changing in my area and it's still hitting high 80's and low 90's. I had my makeup done at Sephora for our engagement shoot, but it's definitely not necessary. I'm fine with doing my own makeup, but I'm also not experienced in doing makeup that will be photographed with a high quality camera. I know many brides do their hair and/or makeup trial for their engagement photos.

Coordinate outfits, but don't match! Don't wear anything with too crazy of a pattern (even my FH's thin striped shirt looked a little awkward in some photos because of the angle). I didn't get my makeup done, just wore my usual day makeup plus some eyeshadow and lipstick. Some people do though! It's really as much or as little as you want to do.

And congratulations fellow May 2020 bride! Smiley smile

I'm going to wear a maroon dress and he's wearing a blue suit with a maroon tie for one outfit. The casual outfit I'll wear a white blouse and jeans and he'll wear a maroon button up and boots. They don't match but they GO together if that makes sense. I'll also be getting my hair and makeup done because I'm wearing extensions and need some professional help concealing themSmiley smile If you can do your own, I definitely think that's fine!!!

I think you need to do whatever you feel comfortable with. We did not coordinate outfits, we just wore what we felt good in but made sure to match the levels of formality: I wore a dress and he wore an ice button down, etc. When it comes to hair and makeup, again, it’s all about comfort. I usually wear makeup so I did my own and went a little “extra” (more eye shadow, fake lashes). I got my hair done at Ulta because I suck at curling my own hair. I felt like a million bucks, and I think it made the pictures turn out much better.

Had mine yesterday after work. I got my hair styled simply and did my own makeup. I practiced my makeup over the weekend to determine what I wanted to do. Hair cost me just over $50, which was fantastic! As for outfits, i wore a solid-colored burgundy dress and he wore blue and white checkered shirt with khakis. We did them outdoors with the yellow fall aspens in CO so we will both stand out against the scenery but not clash. I’m not a fan of matchy but some people are. I did put on deep navy press on nails, though.
