Engagement party

Sierra, on May 10, 2019 at 8:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
My fiancé and I have been engaged for almost a month. What are some thoughts on engagement parties? I’ve never been to one, so I’m unsure if it would be too much? We wouldn’t ask for any gifts/register anywhere as we would save that for wedding shower. Opinions?

One of my friends moms had one for us. It was a good opportunity for my bridesmaids to meet the groomsmen and in general for my people to meet him and his people and vice versa lol they’re definitely not necessary, we wouldn’t have had one if her mom hadn’t offered to host

I think engagement parties are becoming more of a common thing and I’ve seen some pretty extravagant ones. I think it’s fun to celebrate with family and friends especially since it’s such a special occasion, and I always think they’re a better idea if you’re having a longer engagement because then it won’t be too close to other wedding festivities like bridal shower, etc.

My fiancé and I just got engaged about two months ago and we’re having a party two weeks from tomorrow! I never would have thrown it for myself but my mom, cousin and best friend got together and wanted to throw us one. They may not be 100% necessary but I’m extremely excited for it!!

The only reason we are considering letting it be thrown for us is because our friends haven't met... but we may just throw a housewarming party for ourselves instead so we can invite more people.

My mom REALLY wanted to throw us one so we decided to have it at Dave and Buster's. My FH's people and my people already know each other too but it was a good time to just gather together. It was just about 20-30 people and the food was pretty good. We're big kids at heart! Of course, you don't even have to hold it outside of your (or someone else's house/backyard). It doesn't have to be expensive at all but it's also not mandatory so it's really up to you.
