I will be skipping it. Most of our friends are from out of town. Plus it just seems gift grabby to me. Way too many parties!!

I will be having a bridal party/getaway. 3 of my 4 girls live in Nashville so my 4th one and I will pack up and go have a girls weekend in Nashville!!

FH plans to go to New Orleans

We are also skipping the bachelor and bachelorette parties. Just want to get away with our friends for a weekend!!

We didn't have one. What's the point?

Yes. They're just another unnecessary event that people often feel obligated to bring gifts to.

Yes. Someone else is supposed to throw one for you and it's not a requirement.

Yes, no one offered to throw one and that's fine with me, I'm having a bridal shower and a bachelorette party so we didn't even need an engagement party. We just went out to dinner with friends to celebrate and it was so much fun!

I didn't really want one but FSIL said she wanted to throw one for us and I felt weird saying no. I would've skipped having one if she hadn't asked to do it

Sort of. We skipped an engagement party and had a small dinner with our parents and siblings. We kind of swapped the engagement party for a couples shower which we had a little over a week ago. Since we got engaged in December it seemed like the better option instead of trying to squeeze an engagement party in during the holidays.

Didn't have one; and you're not supposed to throw your own. FWIW, they're bit of a regional thing.

Yes ... I just don't get them. Your guests are already gifting you at your wedding and shower (if you're having one).... they don't need another event to feel obligated to.

We aren't having one. The purpose of one is so people know you are engaged. Facebook and phone calls take care of that.
