Engagement Party

Kourtney, on June 25, 2019 at 2:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi everyone! We’re having our engagement party September 1st of this year (12 months before the wedding). What do you do at engagement parties? Can you play games or announce the wedding party? Do people bring gifts? Or is it mostly just a social gathering with music, food, and drinks? Thanks!

    I didn't have one but I think it's just a social gathering

Ours was 10 months before the wedding. It was a cocktail party to socialize with family and friends. We had already chosen our bridal party so it was nice for everyone to meet each other. We had food, drinks, music and cake. Some people brought gifts, nothing off the registry just cash and wine mostly. We sent thank you notes to everyone who came regardless of a gift.

The ones I've been to at least, it's just a casual hang out usually with music & food & alcohol. Some have pictures of the couple. I've been to ones with yard games but never any other type of game. I've seen people bring cards, gift cards, bottles of champagne, picture frames, etc. but a lot of people don't bring anything.

I recently had mine we had about 70 people which was a lot but it was pretty laid back in my moms yard we listened to music, ate good food, provided beer and sangria, and played yard games it was a lot of fun. No one was told to bring gifts I didn’t make a registry or anything but almost everyone ended up bringing a gift some actual gifts and some cash which was of course not necessary but very much appreciated!!

Ours was pretty low key. We tried to plan it close-ish to when we got engaged and pitched it as a "come celebrate before we start wedding planning" kind of event so that we could invite coworkers that we wanted to celebrate with but might not invite to the wedding. We provided a charcuterie kind of spread along with cookies and non-alcoholic beverages, and let everyone pick up their own beer tab. We told everyone not to bring gifts, but still got a few things (giftcards, bottle of bourbon, etc).

Hi Kourtney! How is your engagement party planning coming along? Have you decided what games or entertainment you will have?
