Engagement party the day before the Superbowl???

Tara, on November 3, 2011 at 3:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

We are going to have a super small wedding, but still want to celebrate with our families and introduce them all. So I've been thinking it would be romantic to have an engagement party on the anniversary of our engagement. Before getting too attached to it, I checked the calendar...and the next day is the Superbowl... It would be all family and neighbors, and I'm not sure if people would just go with it and show up, or not. They have ALL been nagging asking when's the date and when do they get to meet him, and I figure if we give them enough heads-up time, then it'll be fine, right? It would be an afternoon thing, so the 1.5-2hr drivers would have time to get home. What do you guys think?

The reason I'm not sure about changing the weekend is it's 2 weeks after FH's 40th bday, so I don't want to move it up and make his 40th about us; and it's like a week and a half before Valentine's Day, and I don't want to get in the way of people trying to get away for the weekend before V-Day.

I think the day before the super bowl would be just fine. A lot of people shouldn't have to work or get up too early the next day. And like you mentioned, it would be best IMO to have it the same weekend as the super bowl rather than too close to his bday or v-tines day. Also it is just so perfect to have your party on the anniversary of your engagement. Smiley smile

I agree about having it then. The superbowl shouldn't have anything effect on it as it's the day after your party.

    From a guests' prespective.

The only concern I would have, especially as one of the 1.5-2hr drivers, is that now

during that weekend I have to give up both days to other functions.

If you look at losing Sunday morning to church, taking a nap, and then from 4pm on is Superbowl, it only leaves you Saturday to do your other weekend things. (Which for me includes gym, laundry, vacuum, prepping food for the week.)

It depends on how close we are to determine if I decide to attend or not. Are you a cousin? My aunt? My sister?

And how far do I have to drive? And what is gas at the time? And the weather? (Ok, you're in CA, snow might not be an issue.)

I think the date is special enough (your engagement anniversary) that you should go for it, but don't be upset if your distance guests don't do the drive.

Edit because I had a sentence issue.

That's what I was worried about, too. I don't think any of the distance drivers go to church on Sundays. But I would totally understand if they didn't come, and we would catch up with them at some point. FH's dad wasn't around much when he was growing up, but is making an effort now. FH's dad lives in the same general area as my 2-hours-away family, so maybe we could have some event with both sides that we see less than once a year all together. But as far as planning that, too? Maan that would have to wait for Christmas! lol
