Eloping! Something borrowed!

Camille, on May 22, 2019 at 7:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18

My FH and I have decided to elope in a few days before our big wedding, which is a year away. I’d still like to follow the old, new, borrowed, blue, tradition. We aren’t telling anyone until we’ve done it to keep the romance for ourselves. How can I borrow something without tipping anyone else and what should I borrow?

Perhaps you could ask to borrow someone’s necklace because you don’t want to buy s new one that you won’t wear frequently.

You could rent your jewelry from rent the runway - it’s borrowed, cause you have to give it back!

My sister "borrowed" my late grandmother's perfume. Maybe borrow the scent one of your loved ones use(d)?

    Hi Camille!

As you’re eloping a couple of days before the wedding, I don’t feel like it would be too suspicious if you ask someone for something to borrow, such as jewelry, in advance! You could make an excuse like you wanted to try everything on together before the wedding day to make sure it all works together, or get it cleaned or polished!

Alternatively, you could borrow something from your FH Smiley smile

What will you use for your new, old and blue?

Oh I love all of these ideas! Our other wedding is over a year away, (June 2020), so borrowing to prep a look for the wedding would be tough since I haven’t gone gown shopping yet.

We we decided to take his parents rings and tie them to my bouquet tomorrow. They had a very long and loving marriage. That way we are bringing them along with us.

Wish me luck on telling my my parents and his kids we eloped before the wedding!

Oh I forgot to say, my something old and blue is a diamond and sapphire tennis bracelet that my dad gave to my mom and my mom gave to me. They are divorced now, but I still feel like there was love in the gift. I also really like that my mom wanted me to have it. My something new is my dress and a pair of earrings I bought with money my parents gave me for my birthday recently. So I’m bringing them with me as well.

Thank you! I am wearing a heeled sandal, so am carrying a Danish Kroner in my purse. Do you think that's good enough? FH is from Denmark.

Also, I re-read my original post, we are eloping over a year before the wedding. I must have been distracted when writing! Sorry for the confusion.

I totally think that works and has specific meaning for the two of you, which is what it should all be about! I’m going to wear an anklet with the coin on it! Good luck!

    That's so sweet Smiley smile

I just saw your message that the elopement is a year before the wedding, my suggestion doesn't make much sense anymore as I thought it was a before!! I will edit that for you Smiley smile

Does your FH have anything you can borrow? Perhaps a pin or brooch that you could pin to a bouquet or on the inside lining of your dress?

Are you and your FS going away for a couple of days to elope? What will your cover story be for family and friends? If you tell them you're going on vacation, or for a couples days break, you could ask to borrow something for the trip, like a clutch?

    Thanks for asking!

We tied his parents' wedding bands (they are both deceased) to my bouquet! So I borrowed something from my husband and it was also a way of including his parents on our special day. I also wore jewelry gifted from my parents so they were with me in spirit as well.

Everyone took the elopement really well, including my parents and his kids, I think because we are still having a larger wedding next year. I think I'll tie his parents' rings to my bouquet for the next wedding as well.

Terra that’s so beautiful! I don’t know how I missed that. Maybe I can do that with one of my grandma’s scents for our other wedding.
