Whats the dkffence of an intimate ceremony and eloping?

We just want our wedding party, parents and maybe a few friends at the ceremony, then have a traditional like reception with all our initial guests

That is an intimate wedding. 50 and under. Officially eloping is more just the couple and maybe a couple of friends.

How would i go about contacting someone for the ceremony part of it? Our reception will be at a different location and we prefer to be outdoors for the ceremony part.

Look up elopement packages in your area or wherever you want to go. Usually for one price you get an officiant to perform the ceremony and sometimes it comes with photography and filing of the license. That is what we are doing and often they will coordinate. Often they will charge a bit more to have guests or their base packages allow for small guests. Here are a couple of sites to look at:

I had the same question. We have been told that we're eloping and I don't think we are...we're having 20 people at our ceremony and then a dinner after and thats it. But I'd still consider it an intimate wedding...right? Elopement is usually just the couple and a witness or two I think? The way we went about it was we booked the ceremony first and told the venue we wanted an intimate ceremony with ball park of people 15-25, then we had a reception planned (has since changed to a small dinner with just ceremony folks) at another location and gave them our larger number of 65. It was a pita to plan them separately but it's worth it if thats what you want!

Honestly, there is no difference. It used to be that an elopement was just the two of you, without any guests at all (even immediate family). But now people often use "elopement" to mean just a very small wedding, at which it's pretty much the same as an intimate wedding. And even intimate wedding doesn't have a well defined meaning; I've seen people refer to five people or fifty as an intimate wedding.
